A buddy of mine works at AA headquarters and he says that they are freaking out there over a outage in the reservation system. He says that they are grounding all flights globally. They can't figure out what's wrong and suspect it may be cyber terrorism.
Just got this text from him...
“Possible terrorism... None of our applications function, including Aatms, ims, sales link...”
Govt cant let those white, Christian, gun owning, Tea Party members whom bombed the Boston Marathon get away to their tax haven countries of refuge! /sarc
The only solution is that we citizens give up all our rights and let government save us.
Just got word from some employes flying out today. Looks like a computer glitch. http://m.kltv.com/autojuice?targetUrl=http%3a%2f%2fwww.kltv.com%2fstory%2f21993863%2ffaa-american-airlines-grounds-flights-nationwide
Or North Korea. Hell, If I was Kim Jong-un...I would have launchted thoses MRBMs yesterday while Obama was distracted on how NOT to say the word “Terrorism” or “Islamic”.
Where is the HQ?
"All your pranes are belong to us."
Never! Leave the cities before everyone tries to...
Who needs cyber terrorism when you have unions and Windows.
Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.....Robert Heinlein......
“He says that they are grounding all flights globally.”
As someone with more than 800K miles on American, I can assure you this will be the first passenger service improvement in more than a decade.
HQ is in Ft. Worth a little southwest of DFW airport. Headquarters employees aren’t unionized.
Not quite - Windows is bad, but we can't blame this on them. I believe that AA runs Sabre on IBM mainframes.
LOL! I keep telling him to go work for Southwest Airlines.
Hey, it looks like the system (almost) worked.
Goof up the reservation system to get around the watch list?
Wife’s southwest flight from florida just got delayed 1/2 hour but sounds routine thus far.
Yep, I caught that right after I hit “Post”.
Time to get back to paper and pen.
Didn’t American just merge with Useless Air, formerly known as All Agony Airlines?
That explains it all.
I am literally the last person in my airport who knows how to board and dispatch an aircraft using PAPER.
Back in the day, computer failures were EXPECTED, and planned for. But, not today. I still don’t understand the logic in that.
Blame republicans and sequester in 10, 9, 8...
And, never attribute to stupidity which is adequately explained by evil. ie; If you voted for Obama, you are EITHER ignorant or evil.
Air Canada had a similar problem last year. I spent a night sleeping on the floor in Toronto Pearson Airport. Not fun.
Maybe they figure that they’ll be safer on the ground from North Korean nukes. That’s the logic of leadership.
You’d think they would have back up systems for the back up systems for the back up systems.
“Sabre Back up, so we should be able to resume flights shortly.... Other apps are still down though, but shouldn’t interfere with putting planes back in sky”
So if I have a planeload of people waiting to go someplace tell me again why I wouldn’t want to crank up the engines and take them? Can’t get lunch on board? Reservations are for the NEXT flight. We used to be able to fill up an airplane with people who walked in and actually bought a ticket. If the airline is so freeeeking bleeeped up that it can’t move a plane without a ground computer working maybe it’s time for them to just file chapt 11 and park it.?
All flights out of Kansas City are cancelled or delayed. Half the inbound flights are the same.
Heinlein never met Bronco Bama
At least it was Toronto!
I don't know what I mean by that but I just had to post it anyway!
Just boarding my flight now at DFW after a 2.5 hour delay.
As you say...
Its better to shut it down elegantly rather than have it fail spectacularly
I would think that an airline would base their system on Erlang, which is a language that can route around network problems and allows hot upgrades with no downtime. It was developed by Ericcson for cell phone networks.
“It was designed by Ericsson to support distributed, fault-tolerant, soft-real-time, non-stop applications. It supports hot swapping, so that code can be changed without stopping a system.”
Very simple, in an effort to merge US Airways system with AA, they found out why you never mix matter with anti-matter.
US Airways should have been run out of business years ago. I flew an average of 120+ flights a year for over 20 years and by far they are the lowest of the low lives.
Maybe someone plugged an Ethernet switch in to the system.
Your comment is one of the reasons I need this site...I need a laugh somewhere amongst all the gloom and doom and you have provided.
I hate when that happens! We need an edit function.
