“Boston Marathon bombing and aftermath”
SNIPPET: “A few points I think worth noting, in no particular order:
The bombings were remarkably well-planned and well-executed. That alone makes this event noteworthy. While that doesn’t prove that at least one of the brothers Tsarnaev received training, it does make it rather more likely that they did - particularly in light of other information.”
SNIPPET: “The most worrisome aspect of this case for me lies in the fact the FBI - having received fairly specific intelligence that Tamerlan was in the process of joining up with a underground radical Islamist group - was unable to uncover any evidence to corroborate that information. Either the right questions were not asked, or the right places were not searched. Or perhaps the foreign report was based on human intelligence sources, and our own over-reliance on technical sources effectively blinded us to what the foreign government saw as obvious.”
ADDING to post no. 68:
“CIA pushed to add Boston bomber to terror watch list”
(April 24, 2013)
SNIPPET: “The Reuters news agency first disclosed that Tsarnaevs name was listed in the TIDE database. But the revelation of the CIAs role is likely to intensify questions about whether the FBI and other domestic law enforcement agencies missed chances to detect or disrupt the bomb plot.”

“Wolf Legislation Brings Back 9/11 Commission”

SNIPPET: “Among those is the FBI’s handling of a January 2011 inquiry triggered by contact from Russia’s Federal Security Bureau (FSB) about Tamerlan’s Islamic extremism.
The fact that the FBI didn’t learn about Tamerlan’s travel to Russia despite knowledge within the Department of Homeland Security underscores some of the problems that have remained unsolved since the 9/11 Commission issued its report.
A Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee report on the terrorism watch list from last July found that the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) lacked access to all intelligence databases despite the 9/11 Commission’s desire to break down the walls between various agencies.
Wolf blames a comprehensive political correctness that he says has consumed all aspects of the Obama administration.”
