UPDATE: Heller 'No' on Gun Control; Biden claims 58 Votes
Dean Heller ^ | Dean Heller

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Dean Heller (R-NV) issued the following statement in opposition to the Manchin-Toomey amendment to S. 649.

“When it comes to national policy choices on issues such as Constitutional liberties, gun violence and public safety, the stakes could not be higher. The enormity of this issue has weighed heavily on me. While I was home this past weekend, my family and I ate at the Carson IHOP where four people lost their lives and several were injured. The survivors of that senseless shooting in the morning hours of September 6, 2011, deserve this debate.

“I believe very strongly that our current background check system needs strengthening and improving, particularly in areas that could keep guns out of the hands of felons and the mentally ill. At the same time, I cannot support legislation that infringes upon the Constitutional right to keep and bear arms. Despite the good faith efforts of Senators Manchin and Toomey, the onerous paperwork and expansion of federal power mandated in this legislation are too great of a concern. I believe that this legislation could lead to the creation of a national gun registry and puts additional burdens on law-abiding citizens. For these reasons, I cannot vote for this legislation,” said Senator Dean Heller.

The Second Amendment is Sacred. It was written not to address a point in time but to address the nature of man. (ie there will always be tyrants until the end of time).

Any so-called “Conservative” who does not understand this needs to be voted out of office tuit suite.

Well good for Senator Heller. As for the remaining two votes, who will they buy, and what price the betrayal?

It's probably an F, B, and I task: "Go dig up or create some dirt, bring it back, and we'll blackmail as many votes as we need." The F, the B, and the I used to be a law enforcement agency; now, it's just the dirty tricks office of the Democratic [sic] party.

They’re both a problem and neither have said anything.

Reports from TN is that Alexander is not taking calls.

“They need to think twice about that.”

Good point for them to consider, especially the two from Tennessee

The problem is the traitors in TN have no opposition back home and neither does Isakson in GA.

Will Lautenberg be able to make the vote?

If that old SOB croaks, does Crispy Creme get to appoint an interim successor?

I don’t trust Isakson as far as I an throw him but he’s taking so much heat for his cloture vote I can’t imagine he will actually vote for the bill.

He can prolly kiss his senate seat goodbye anyway in 2016 but a yes vote on Manchin-toomey would seal the deal. Ya hear me Johnny you POS RINO?

There’s a certain date later in the year if he dies after that date then he can appoint someone for a whole year... if he dies before then or quits (more likely) then there is a special election pretty quickly.

“...and all this for a bill which will be DOA in the House.”

DO NOT BELIEVE THAT FOR A SECOND!

Bonehead will be in favor of it and want to ram it through as fast as he can to “take it off the table as an issue”.

If it passes in the Senate you can just about be assured it will pass in the House.

Interesting, how he can continue to talk out of both sides of his mouth...

I noticed that he left out that if the people gunned down could have utilized their Constitutional Right to carry, they might not be dead today.

Unfort., he’s still too tone deaf to hear the irony of ‘background checks’ and ‘shall not be infringed’
