Posted on 04/17/2013 6:04:51 AM PDT by Zakeet
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) told reporters on Wednesday that the compromise legislation he crafted with Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) to expand background checks for gun purchasers does not have enough votes to pass the Senate when it comes up for a vote.
Chuck Todd, NBCs Chief White House Correspondent, speculated that, because the Manchin/Toomey compromise could not pass the House, there is no incentive for legislators who may be vulnerable on the issue of guns in 2014 to pass stricter legislation.

This is especially good because it gives the Royal Idiot and his stalwart Libtard allies more time to work on their new cause!
Great start to the day.
I hope this freedom taker sees infinitely more failures of his ideals the rest of his miserable life.

Good. Give them a bloody nose and if they come back for more, break it.
Good. I’m all for seeing 2nd Amendment traitors like Manchin and his sock puppet Toomey go down to flaming defeat.
Well there’s a spot of good news.
Perdogg called it even when the Dems were celibrating the big win on this this weekend and late last week, many smiles and laughter on MSNBC over finally beating the NRA.
I think the bombing helped kill this bill that was already on life support. The Sandy Hook weeping (on camera) moms trying to keep it going are old news now. The Cameras have moved up to Boston.
Notice that Manchin-Toomey is what the ruling class wants. But, if it’s not going to pass, members of the ruling elite don’t want to be singled out as having voted for failed legislation.
I’d be surprised if there is more than 5 members of Congress that actually cares about Americans or America.
Thus Pat Toomey ends his political career for absolutely FREAKIN’ NOTHING!!!!!
Indicating to me that he’s just too stoooopid to be my Senator.
Pass or not—we need to remember our good “friend” Pat Toomey.
The man with two faces.
I think that this has gone on the back burner for more important pressure cooker control legislation.
If only he had bought that extra case of champagne for his yacht, this might not be the case...
good. we will need every patriot to help fight the wahabis
he barely squeaked by against a weak opponent in Sestak in 2010 in the best year for the GOP in 75 years.
the idea that he was going to be reelected in 2016 in PA with Hillary on the ballot in a Presidential year always struck me as fanciful. and that was before this.
I would have never expected this to survive the House anyway. Much ado about nothing.
I knew and said years ago that Manchin was a loser, when will people get it that the term “ Conservative Democrat” or even “ Christian Democrat” are both oxymoron’s
If any of these folks held any Conservative or Christian beliefs, they could not/would not be able to vote democrat in any way shape or form
Obama has to be asking himself - how would banning pressure cookers advance the communist agenda?
Ding Dong, ding dong....You know a bipartisan legislative bill, even a Democrats dream bill like this one, is highly flawed when it can’t get past a cloture vote..... Everyone knows this bill is toxic because its a precursor to even worse legislation leading to a 2nd Amendment work around.
And to think I promised Begich’s staff I’d put his sign at the end of my lane and send him some bucks if he was honorable and didn’t vote for the background check bill; killed gun control in the Senate and made ole Big Ears pout. Nobody will know that I sent him a 100 bucks, all my conservative neighbors will see the sign, what to do, what to do???????
Both explicitly exposed.
How many lies does one need to tell to be a liar ?
A lot of apologetics happanin' here in Pennsylvania for Toomey because he is otherwise a conservative ... but I say, maybe no more.
Now that this has been stopped, we can move onto far more important legislation such as banning IEDs and any other bombs people can make up. We need a bomb ban!!!
“What, sir, is the use of militia? It is to prevent the establishment of a standing army, the bane of liberty... Whenever Government means to invade the rights and liberties of the people, they always attempt to destroy the militia, in order to raise an army upon their ruins.”
—Elbridge Gerry, 1789
LOOKS LIKE THE BIG GUY'S BEEN SUCKING-UP.
God knows where his mouth has been.
No American is safe with this legacy-obsessed clown and his henchmen in the White House.....not Bostonians, not 8-yo kids, not physically fit marathon runners, not marathon observers on the sidelines....nobody is safe....and that includes soldiers on US military bases (Ft Hood) and US embassies abroad (benghazi).
B-U-T THE CLOWN HAS ANOINTED SOME W/ "PROTECTED CLASS" (Democrat voters): some sectors are safe---given safe passage by the WH clown.
(1) SAFE: Ohaha worshippers--Robert Redfords Terrorist Heroes FrontPageMag.com ^ | Arpil 16, 2013 | Bosch Fawstin / FR Posted by Perseverando ALL OF IT, said Robert Redford, when asked if he supported the bombings by The Weather Underground. Redford came out for terrorism on a mainstream morning television show in an interview with democrat-operative-leftist-hack George Stephanopoulos, who was slobbering over Redfords pro-terrorist movie, The Company You Keep. I drew my illustration of Redford, below, days ago, and I wonder if hes for the terrorist attack in Boston today. Or maybe he wants to wait and see if its leftist terrorists before he decides hes all for it. Below is a list of what Robert Redford was for, via Sean Hannity on FOX News. The Weather Undergrounds history of terrorism consisted of: 1970: SFPD Bombing (1 Killed) 1970: NYPD Bombing (7 Hurt) 1970: NYC Explosion (3 Killed) 1971-72: Capital & Pentagon Attacked 1981: Armed Robbery (3 Killed)
(2) SAFE: Prostrate politicians, kneeling in oberisance all puckered up, sucking up to Ohaha...especially if they feed the legacy obsession.......particularly if they push for "immigration reform" which puts Americans in danger.
(3) SAFE: The Muslim Brotherhood got couple billion tax dollars from Ohaha to carry out their hateful jihad against America.
(4) SAFE--- Mexican cartels deep inside US - spreading into non-border states CHICAGO (AP) Mexican drug cartels whose operatives once rarely ventured beyond the US border are dispatching some of their most trusted agents to live and work deep inside the United States an emboldened presence that experts believe is meant to tighten their grip on the world's most lucrative narcotics market and maximize profits. If left unchecked, authorities say, the cartels' move into the American interior could render the syndicates harder than ever to dislodge and pave the way for them to expand into other criminal enterprises such as prostitution, kidnapping-and-extortion rackets and money laundering.
Some cartels even have Mexican operatives fill out job applications before being dispatched to the US, Riley added. In Mexico, the cartels are known for a staggering number of killings more than 50,000, according to one tally. Beheadings are sometimes a signature. So far, cartels don't appear to be directly responsible for large numbers of slayings in the United States, though the Texas Department of Public Safety reported 22 killings and five kidnappings in Texas at the hands of Mexican cartels from 2010 through mid- 2011. Still, police worry that increased cartel activity could fuel heightened violence.--SNIP--
In Chicago, the police commander who oversees narcotics investigations, James O'Grady, said street-gang disputes over turf account for most of the city's uptick in murders last year, when slayings topped 500 for the first time since 2008. Riley's assessment is stark: He argues that the cartels should be seen as an underlying cause of Chicago's disturbingly high murder rate. "They are the puppeteers," he said. "Maybe the shooter didn't know and maybe the victim didn't know that. But if you follow it down the line, the cartels are ultimately responsible." (NY POST EXCERPT)
The amnesty bill grants broad discretionary powers to the Executive Branch. Dictatorial powers Ohaha has alreay grabbed, were conferred on DHS, the EPA, and the various Obamacare boards.
UNCLE OBAMA---legacy freak
Amen. His little buddy, too.
Still kind of hard to believe that these are the types that roam the halls of Congress, that get to pass laws that us little people have to follow. Even harder to believe that so many are so successful, financially.
When you publicly state that your bill wouldn’t stop anything but you draft it and present it anyway, I think that pretty much tells the world that you are a moron.
Keep the sentries on station. This is only a temporary set back for these asshats. No doubt they are or have been planning something else in dark of night which we will find more, uh................”palatable”. I think not! No ground can be given to these clowns led by their ring master hairy screed.
“when will people get it that the term Conservative Democrat or even Christian Democrat are both oxymorons”
I think you’re being too kind. I would tend to use words like “mythical beast” and “imaginary beast”, “mythical beast”, and “fraudulent beast”.
And, of course, the press will only highlight that not enough Republicans voted for the measure, totally omitting that the Democrats control the Senate by a decent majority. Watch. First words after saying it failed will start with “Republicans”.
Can’t stand it anymore. Feel powerless to do anything!
Liberals continually try to pretend that the National Guard is the Militia, even though it is bought and paid for by the Federal Government and is part of their "standing army".
The Proof: the regularly scheduled rotations to Iraq, Afghanistan, etc., right along with the other military units.
There was no "call up of the militia".
Unlike Fort Hood and Benghazi, this affected 'regular' people here at home (not on a military base, not overseas) and at an event where they probably didn't give being attacked/maimed/killed a second thought. The illusion of 'safety' has been shattered (as it was on 9-11) and those bad, bad feelings are back. A harsh reminder "All the king's horses and all the king's men" can't keep us safe .... which leads to more and more folks coming to the realization they must protect themselves.
If Sestak runs in a rematch, I bet he wins by a huge margin.
Good, he threw away a lifetime of A rating's from the NRA for nothing. Unfortunately, having kept his pro-gun mask on until after the November election, we in West Virginia can't do anything to get rid of him until 2018....
Good. Now go hang yourself. TYVM
Back burner. Pressure cooker.
There’s a joke in there somewhere...
Manchin and Toomey need to be recalled. They are not representing their constituents.
Do you support keeping a standing army?
The PA Dems can always manage to find some goober like Bob Casey who will talk a good game about being pro-gun and pro-life, while embracing failed FDR economics.
The dirty little secret being that large numbers of PA voters actually LIKE failed liberal economics, and only vote for the Pubbie over guns and social issues.
Toss those out of the equation and they’ll bite on the Dem every time.
The list of GOP traitors is so long that nearly everyone is on it!
It doesn’t have 51 votes? That many Democrats oppose it?
We do not have recall in PA, unfortunately.
Based on his appearance on the Quinn and Rose show this week, and the drubbing he took there, I do suspect his career is now toast.
The U.S. Congress does not recognize recall on the grounds, believe it or not, that recall is NOT in the U.S. Constitution.
Or alternatively that no one can be trusted, we are all potential terrorists, cept the gubment, at least if Obama is POTUS anyway.
So we must be completely disarmed, even sharp knives and sugar soda too, for the common good.
I think this bombing kills the effort to use the weeping moms to get the public interested in this gun ban stuff.
I don’t think WV people as a whole would ever seriously considering reprimanding Manchin for much of anything.
Gerrymandering is named after him.
