Promises, promises: Obama’s IOUs start coming due
Associated Press ^ | Apr 18, 2013 3:10 AM EDT | Calvin Woodward

Presidential campaigns are long in the making, quick to be forgotten. But one part of them lives on for years: the victor’s promises.

President Barack Obama paved his path to re-election with fewer promises than in 2008. The ones he did lay down, though, are meaty, legacy-shaping for him and consequential to ordinary lives today and for generations to come, for better or worse.

They also are extraordinarily difficult to achieve in a time of gridlock grief and budgets that are tight when they are not paralyzed. …

Whatever a candidate’s promises, legacies are made by how a president manages matters of war and peace, economic growth and weakness, social change and traditional values, and whatever crises come out of the blue. …

But Obama made a pact with voters, not historians, and he’s got IOUs outstanding. …

Guess that will be as good as we see it out of the liberal media for now. The rest of the article is filled with “but the GOP” et cetera.

The Current Occupant of the White Hut is wearing a frown? Gosh, sorry to hear that.

It has not been a good couple of days for The Regime. First, the wheels are coming off the push for “common-sense gun control” (an oxymoron), and now the other eyewitnesses at Benghazi are being interviewed by the House committee investigating the circumstances.

Then there is the impossible task of putting the genie back in the bottle at the Boston Marathon bombing. The FBI has to keep putting off the public briefing, at least until the White Hut war room can put some kind of spin on the ID of the perps, who at this point seem not to be some white supremist right-wing T.E.A. party types.

He made a pact with someone else, many years ago. How else could he have gotten where he is with so little to work with?

So long as The Won continues to occupy the place, it shall remain the White Hut. Current Maximum Leader of the Regime cannot bring shame upon the edifice, but he is fit to live in no better than a goat-herder’s humble abode, and therefore, wherever he shall reside, is but a hovel and only slightly better than a ramble shack.

We need a President to take his obligations seriously and redeem the prestige of all its trappings. It takes far less to maintain the Queen of England than it does to support this oaf in office.

Those Benghazi witnesses, once the media furor over this week’s events has subsided, need to be brought out in a very public way! One thing the Republicans need to learn better is the art of openly exposing the enemy.

I know a senior citizen who voted for Obama specifically because she was happy the Muslims around the world seemed to like him. She was afraid to change course in our policy toward them.

Because I am surrounded by conservatives and libertarians and literally no one among my family or friends voted for Obama, I don't know how widespread this view was. But if it is and attacks on US soil begin coming with frequency, 0 could be in trouble.

>>>please drop the hut bit... it makes us (freepers) look like jerks.

There are a whole lot of people here on FR who claim Christianity that are going to have a lot of answering to do regarding how they treated the commands to honor the leaders of your country and pray for them (1 Tim 2:1-3; Romans 13:1; Titus 3:1, 2; 1 Peter 2: 13-17). They will also have to answer for their hypocrisy: So many people here got absolutely inflamed when the left mocked GWB...and now do the same thing.

Bottom line: If you call yourself a follower of Christ...then you follow His word. If Paul can say to submit and pray for those in authority...considering HIS person of authority was NERO...and we can't submit to the authority of Obama...then what does it say about our faith compared to theirs...because no matter how bad Obama is...he's no Nero.

All leaders are appointed by God...for HIS purpose. Some are appointed as vessels of honor and some are appointed as vessels of dishonor. Some are appointed to bring a country through a tough time...and some are appointed in order to administer God's justice to that country.

Given our graves sins...just who do you think Obama is? And if he be that instrument God has chosen to judge this country (just like the kings of Israel before the captivity), who are we to question God's choice?

The BETTER option is to have personal repentance....and submit ourselves to the will of God.

This is the only way to save this country. Being stiff-necked and stubborn regarding the will of God is what got us here in the first place.

Read George Washington on the war with tyranny. If your reasoning were valid... ALL of our Founding Fathers would reside in Hell. We would have had no right to resist Japan or Germany... leaders are leaders no? GOD gave us our Constitution in the same way HE gave us the Bible... through the Holy Spirit touching the hearts and minds of just men. You worry about your eternal soul and we will try to save your vessel in this life.

GOD never compelled us to bow down to satan... and no doubt satan reigns this world today. obama is evil... therefore I must stand against that evil as millions of us are doing. I will resist Tyranny when it threatens my GOD given rights... and my rights and your rights flow from GOD. To NOT defend those rights is a sin. I will face CHRIST with you one day... I have no fear in my heart. I am but HIS tool and I love HIM and the FATHER.

If we need human “leaders”, why wasn’t one waiting for Adam and Eve outside the Garden of Eden?

>>>Then why didn't He create a leader to rule over Adam and Eve before He created Adam and Eve?

He did. HIMSELF. They rejected him.

Let's read the scriptures God DID write and discuss how they apply.

Anyone can ask a what if question. My dad used to say (when I would ask why or what): What if a frog had wings? Then he wouldn't bump his butt on the ground everytime he hopped.

It's pretty simple. People either believe the Bible and follow it...or they say they do and don't...or they believe some parts or none at all. I have lot less problem with people who don't believe the Bible is the Word of God and act accordingly than I do with hypocrites who claim the Bible as the supeme authority for faith and practice...and then ignore the stuff that makes them uncomfortable.

Actually it appears you do not know church history or did not read the scriptures...or you have a very bad understanding of God's Grace.

First off, MANY of our founding fathers are in fact in hell. Not becuase they disobeyed God's word regarding authority...but because they disregarded the all sufficient sacrifice of Christ on the Cross. Many were not followers of Christ, placing their faith in Him to save them from their sins. THAT is what landed them in hell.

Second, Germany and Japan were NOT our leaders appointed over us. Again, if you will read the scriptures and read them in context...you will see this is so. Paul is talking about those appointed over you. Hitler was never my grandfathers appointed leader.

And your Obama analogy fails the test of scripture...and it fails the test of how the early church responded to what they were taught by the apostles and scripture. Of course you do not bow down. But did Nero threaten Paul's God given rights? Did Marcus Aurelius threaten the God given rights of Polycarp? Or Justin Martyr? Sure did. How did they react to this threat? Certainly not the way you are suggesting. That leads to one question: Who was right? You or them? Was Judas right all olong for wanting Jesus to be KING? Right then? Should Jesus have overthrown the Roman Rule since the Romans were suppressing the God given rights of God's own people? He said render unto Ceaser the things that are his. Should Paul or his disciples started a rebellion against Rome since they were doing HORRIBLE things against Christians? He didn't. He said to respect them and pray for them. Was he wrong?

Bottom line is this LLS: If you can show me ONE scripture where it is OK to resist (not passive disobedience because what they want you to do violates God's law...we all know you resist to the point of giving up your life), but outright rebellion with dishonoring words and deeds) those in authority over you, I will recant.

Even King David, even though annointed King, would not raise his hand or mouth against Saul...even though Saul was a mad man bent on killing him (1 Sam 26:9).

And Proverbs says: "Do not rejoice when your ENEMY fails..." (Prov 24:17)

Let this sink in: Peter attacks Malchus (Matt 26:52) and Jesus says "all those who live by the sword will die by the sword." Later, Peter says: "Do NOT repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing (1 Peter 3:9)" He got that lesson from Christ. The lesson was a rebellious heart leads to death. Focus on eternity and for the reward you will receive for obedience.

One more note: You said Obama is evil. that I do not doubt. As I said, I feel he is a vessel of dishonor sent as a judgment.

We also do have God given rights...and by no means do I suggest we throw ourselves into martyrdom needlessly. I think a very good example of how to handle the government...especially remembering our rights...is given to us in the Book of Acts, chapters 22 - 26.

It was Paul's God given right as a Roman citizen not to be beaten...and he reminded the centurion of this in Acts 22:25. He didn't fight back. He didn't resist. But he did respectfully protect himself using the law. The centurion made a decision at that point to obey the law. Had the centurion made the decision to violate the law and flog Paul...I have no doubts Paul would have suffered the abuse with gladness.

When he was before the Council, Paul was in a bind. He used great politiking to his advantage. He turned, using truth, one faction on the other. But notice also in Acts 23:3 when he rebuked the high priest and called him a name...what he did in v 5 when he found out he was the high priest (an authority figure)...he apologized using scripture. Here was a man (the high priest) who wanted him dead...and he respected his authority.

Also notice in 23:12-22 that Paul didn't put himself in the way of martyrdom. His nephew heard of a plot to kill Paul...and Paul saw to it he (Paul) was safely removed before all those men who had taken the vow could kill him.

There is more than one way to resist evil. There is more than one way to exert your God given right's. The right way is to do it according to the will of God and the Word of God.

I paraphrased some of the following from another person's post made long ago and added some of my own thoughts.

When JESUS sent HIS disciples out—in Luke 22—HE orders them to sell their cloaks and buy swords if they do not possess any. When JESUS sent them out the first time, HE told them to not take anything—but HE was still on earth. When HE sends them in Luke 22, this time, HE won't be physically there protecting them—therefore HE advocates for a strong self-defense.

The Bible not only advocates self-defense, but also National defense when being attacked.

JESUS’ instruction to “turn the other cheek” was a reference to a personal insult—not physical danger. In the ancient world, the ultimate insult was to slap someone open-handed with the right-hand, then back-hand them across the other cheek with the same hand. JESUS says to not retaliate in kind.

When HE said “Those who live by the sword shall die by the sword”... HE did not mean citizens who merely wish to protect their own. That refers to people who deliberately cause death and destruction—they will die violently (this can be seen in the War on Terror—the terrorists are those who live by the sword, the U.S. military are those that cause the terrorists to die by the sword—in the National defense of the USA.

Private citizens neither attack people, nor are they charged with legally upholding the law, like a police officer—the above reference to “those who live by the sword” is thus obviated.

JESUS also acted violently against the money changers in the Temple and he did not respect or become subservient the the Pharisees... to the contrary... he admonished them and attacked them as hypocrites and liars and instructed people to not follow their example... to not pray for public consumption but to pray for prayers sake and to honor GOD.

I could go on but I have a business to run and customers waiting for me. I suspect that you and I will never agree.

>>>When JESUS sent HIS disciples out—in Luke 22—HE orders them to sell their cloaks and buy swords if they do not possess any....therefore HE advocates for a strong self-defense.

V 36 - "See, Lord, here are two swords.” “That’s enough!” he replied." That's not a strong self defense. Two of 11 (excluding Judas) is not a strong defense.

Nobody...not even I have suggested you do not have a right to self defense. But what you do not have a right to do is slander the government God appointed.

I fear you are misunderstanding me. So let m lay it out one more time...and then we can agree to disagree as Christian Brothers.

I believe in self defense and defending one's family. I beleive that is biblical. I believe in a strong National Defense. I believe in fighting for one's country...so much so I am in the military and have been for 26 years. I've got 4 more years for my 30 and I hope I have a retirement when I get there. That is also biblical.

I believe the scripture teaches us that the government we have is ordained by God...just like Saul was ordained by God to be King of Israel. I believe when you "resist" (Romans 13:2) that power ...and resist means to set yourself against...withstand...oppose...you are resiting the ordinance of God (V 3). I believe we are to submit to the establishment (ordinance) of man (1 peter 2:13) to the point it violates God's law...then we are to submit to God in love...to the point of death. Those establishment includes governors and kings...and presidents (since they are an establishment). I believe the Bible teaches we are to be extremely respectful of those rulers...even when we disagree VEHEMENTLY with what they desire...and when their desires are contrary to the will of God. The Bible teaches we are not to slander them...call them names...or rejoice when they fail. But as I pointed out earlier...we don't throw ourself into the lion's den to play the martyr. Paul didn't in Acts 22-23...and neither should we. But if the government decides it wants to persecute us...then so be it. "All who want to live godly lives in Christ Jesus will be persecuted." 2 Tim 3:12 - And that doesn't mean personal persecution only...but also at the hands of the government (see Paul and ALL the Apostles).

And I think you, as a believer, would agree this nation deserves God's wrath. We've killed 50 million kids and normalized sodomy and adultery...and promote pornography at every turn. The church is weak and made up of people who take a little religion to make them feel good but reject the harder teachings of the Gospel. Therefore...I believe God has raised up Obama...even to the point of sending a hurricane (Sandy) to get him re-elected...to be an instrument of that judgment. Why? Because we deserve it. There is something BIGGER out there. Eternity.

Be blessed.

God allowed earthly rulers, and the separation between their rule and that of Gods is made clear by Mark 12:17 “Then Jesus said to them, “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s”

As a Constitutional Republic, we the people are ultimately the rulers with representatives and administrators we hire, its sad that so many do not understand this simple truth.

Hitler was never my grandfathers appointed leader.

So let me understand. If your Grandfather had been in Germany under Hitler's rule, your Grandfather would have been okay with being in Germany and being ruled by Hitler because it would have been God's Will? Pardon me, but I do not buy into that manner of thinking. Tyranny must be opposed not celebrated. God Himself does no less. God does choose His time and place as He shall forever.

There ya go.

“To secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed”.

People create governments to do what makes more sense to do in bulk rather than individually (establishing a community police force, rather than everyone trying to stay up all night watching their own stuff).

People cannot legitimately create governments to vote for the government to “take his stuff and give it to me”.

Also, He expected Adam (and Eve) to rule themselves, to tell themselves “No, I won’t eat from that tree; it looks yummy, but we’ve been told not to eat it, so we won’t.

That is not what I believe, nor what I haved learned from the Scriptures.

God knew that Adam and Eve would succumb to the temptation. Do you not think God is Omniscient? Do you think that He would not know before hand that they would surely eat from that Tree?

God deliberately 'set us up" to fail. He could have made robots, but instead chose to design a living, intelligent being capable of turning their face from Him. If that were no the case, there would have been no reason for Jesus! Yet, we KNOW/BELIEVE that Jesus was the Word noted in John 1, present from the beginning and even depicted in Psalm 2

Psalm 2: 1 Why do the nations conspire
and the peoples plot in vain?
2 The kings of the earth rise up
and the rulers band together
against the Lord and against his anointed, saying,
3 “Let us break their chains
and throw off their shackles.”
4 The One enthroned in heaven laughs;
the Lord scoffs at them.
5 He rebukes them in his anger
and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,
6 “I have installed my king
on Zion, my holy mountain.”
7 I will proclaim the Lord’s decree:

He said to me, “You are my son;
today I have become your father.

8 Ask me,
and I will make the nations your inheritance,
the ends of the earth your possession.
9 You will break them with a rod of iron;
you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”

10 Therefore, you kings, be wise;
be warned, you rulers of the earth.
11 Serve the Lord with fear
and celebrate his rule with trembling.
12 Kiss his son, or he will be angry
and your way will lead to your destruction,
for his wrath can flare up in a moment.
Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

He was depicted throughout the Old Testament as our "Goel", our kinsman redeemer. He was patterned as the "sacrificial lamb", just as Abraham found the sacrificial substitute for his son, Isaac MIRACULOUSLY! It was ABRAHAM'S FAITH that saved his son. It is OUR FAITH that saves us from separation from God...

Genesis 22: 1 Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!”

“Here I am,” he replied.

2 Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”

3 Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about. 4 On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. 5 He said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you.”

6 Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together, 7 Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?”

“Yes, my son?” Abraham replied.

“The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”

8 Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together.

9 When they reached the place God had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 Then he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. 11 But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!”

“Here I am,” he replied.

12 “Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.”

13 Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram[a] caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”

15 The angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven a second time 16 and said, “I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, 17 I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, 18 and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.”

We are all brothers in CHRIST. Have a great day pal. Unlike muzzies... we can calmly discuss and talk and we both learned something. No one was hurt in the process!

GOD, please keep us safe from evil. Amen
