A Senate in the Gun Lobby’s Grip (Gabby Giffords op-ed barf alert)
NY Times ^ | Gabby Giffords

Posted on 04/18/2013 9:06:31 AM PDT by matt04

SENATORS say they fear the N.R.A. and the gun lobby. But I think that fear must be nothing compared to the fear the first graders in Sandy Hook Elementary School felt as their lives ended in a hail of bullets. The fear that those children who survived the massacre must feel every time they remember their teachers stacking them into closets and bathrooms, whispering that they loved them, so that love would be the last thing the students heard if the gunman found them.

On Wednesday, a minority of senators gave into fear and blocked common-sense legislation that would have made it harder for criminals and people with dangerous mental illnesses to get hold of deadly firearms — a bill that could prevent future tragedies like those in Newtown, Conn., Aurora, Colo., Blacksburg, Va., and too many communities to count.

Some of the senators who voted against the background-check amendments have met with grieving parents whose children were murdered at Sandy Hook, in Newtown. Some of the senators who voted no have also looked into my eyes as I talked about my experience being shot in the head at point-blank range in suburban Tucson two years ago, and expressed sympathy for the 18 other people shot besides me, 6 of whom died. These senators have heard from their constituents — who polls show overwhelmingly favored expanding background checks. And still these senators decided to do nothing. Shame on them.

Hhahahahahaha. They really think that the mass murders would have gotten the paper work to legally posses the guns they plan to use to murder innocent people.

Gabby wrote that?

Yeah... Sure she did...

Different decade, same sock-puppet antics. Shades of Jim Brady all over again. Mark Kelley and the Dems pulling the strings now that Sarah Brady’s star has faded.

The law(s) she proposes would forbid her household from having firearms due to her brain injuries and surgeries. Maybe the law would not apply to them.

Meaning no disrespect to the former Congresswoman from AZ, did she write this herself? Because on video, she comes across rather less articulate.

Considering the supporters of the bill, and various amendments, said it wouldn’t have prevented what happened in Newtown, etc., what are we to believe?

More libtard nonsense. Blaming gun owners for that tragedy is like blaming pressure cookers for the Boston tragedy.

I just might watch the news this weekend to hear the jackasses cry.

Damn, it must be traumatic to be a former congressturd and not have a job. You’re left with “advocating” causes and making appearances with politicians... and when your pet legislative issue doesn’t fly the way you want, you have to evoke the sympathy angle.

The Gun Lobby is composed of your fellow Americans, Gabby. Tens of millions of us. But it’s ok because I know you have the mental capacity of a very young child and this was written in your name by the husband who is making use of your condition, or one of his handlers.

Sorry, Gabs. Even Di-Fi admitted the bill wouldn’t have prevented Newtown. Go sell it somewhere else.

U.S. SENATORS' OATH:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.

IT IS NOT TO FOLLOW THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE OR A CHOSEN FEW

My question is, who do they think the gun lobby is, anyway? It's not the gun companies... they are, for the most part, much more moderate in their perspectives than the NRA, and they don't have pockets deep enough to buy congress anyhow.

The real answer is, the gun lobby is the people. The grassroots. The guys in the trenches.

Yes, the senate is in the grip of the gun lobby, and that's the way the people want it.

Has anyone seen the little video of her moving about.

She has been devastated from her injuries. She was anti-second amendment before and nothing has changed. Given her condition, her husband’s effort to kickstart a new career in politics, and the money being thrown around with handlers and consultants (remember the newtown “families” each had politican handlers and media consultants assigned to them) I DOUBT she wrote anything.

It is probable a rehash of her prior writings.
