06.10 (01.10) This is a completely chaotic scene. Earlier tonight two "Middle-eastern-looking men with guns" hijacked a Mercedes in Cambridge. They drove to a petrol station where the victim of the car jacking was able to escape. Shortly afterwards there were reports of a shooting in Watertown, which suddenly escalated with reports of automatic gunfire and suspects using hand grenades.

06.00 (01.00) BREAKING: We have a chaotic scene in Watertown, just outside Boston, where police are engaged in a serious gun battle with two men who are believed to have hijacked a Mercedes in Cambridge earlier on this evening. Officers are reporting coming under sustained fire and that the gunmen are using hand grenades.

FNC is stating that these two are robbers on the run and NOT related to the Marathon bombings.

They are robbers because they stole a Mercedes. Car jacked. Probably because they were on the run. They have some type of auto hand grenade launcher. Not your normal burglars. A backpack has been dropped off by them.

I’m watching Boston TV on the web, live. Excellent coverage, including video from a guy watching it in Watertown.

One Watertown cop wounded, and the perps were throwing explosives out of the car. Police have a robot clearing the street of explosives. Lots of gunfire.

They arrested one guy who, unfortunately, was wearing a backpack, but then let him go. Apparently lives in the neighborhood.

Still ongoing in Watertown, not over at all.
