The Boy Scouts of America called to end a long-standing ban on openly gay members, a spokesman said on Friday, but the organization's board must still vote in May on whether to ratify the resolution.
If the vote is approved, "no youth may be denied membership in the Boy Scouts of America on the basis of sexual orientation or preference alone," Deron Smith, the organization's spokesman, told Reuters.
Smith noted that the decision drew from three months of research, surveys and discussions and was "among the most complex and challenging issues facing the BSA and society today."
The deliberations over whether to admit openly gay and lesbian members to the Boy Scouts has divided organizers, polarized its corporate and religious sponsors, and placed the group at the center of a nationwide debate over gay rights over the past two years.
"This is a historic change for the Boy Scouts," said Patrick Boyle, whose 1994 book "Scout's Honor" examined sexual abuse in the Boy Scouts of America.

And I would guess that the LDS and many Evangelical churches would do the same. The Muslims too (if any sponsor BSA troops) for that matter.
I just read the synopsis. 3 of 4 council regions and the majority of Scout leaders, especially Boy Scout leaders like myself support the current policy and oppose a change. Most corporate funding groups also support the current policy. Pathetically, they also surveyed 30 other youth serving organizations. 28 oppose current policy, one mildly supports it and one is neutral. Apparently they didn’t bother to contact American Heritage Girls with whom they have a strategic alliance for their opinion.
Knowing he was gay, no exhibitions. His mumsey will need to wire him up with a container and a cone device ~ seriously!

You are 100% right. To paraphrase a great movie opening line “There was a time in America when morals and alligance to God meant something, when young boys and girls were taught common decency, the Ten Commandments and morality. When God came first and service to their fellow man followed. Remember these organizations fondly, for they are no more. They are never to return, for they are “Gone with the Wind”.
So will there be a corn holing merit badge now? I hate what is happening to this once proud nation. And the pace seems to be picking up too.
Probably not that flagrant, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a "Diversity" merit badge in the near future.

Sounds like the fix is in, somehow. Obviously the majority of scout leaders and scout parents are against this. This is being pushed through against majority will like so many other liberal agenda items have been over the last few decades.
That this could happen in such a large private organization is disheartening. My older son is an Eagle already and my younger son is on his way. If this actually happens, we will have to do some serious rethinking.

It is akin to the big lie theory.
By exposing the vote was 72% no to homosexuals AND in order to get to that number they had to include outside groups that were known to favor homosexuals in their ranks, it becomes less persuasive.
The group to keep the bad should expose this study as an out and out fraud on the membership. Resignations should follow.
