Toomey: 'I gave this my best shot'
The Philadelphia Inquirer ^ | April 19, 2013 | Jonathan Tamari

Posted on 04/20/2013 6:52:14 AM PDT by Timber Rattler

After two weeks in the national spotlight, Sen. Pat Toomey was ready to move on.

Toomey, seeming refreshed Thursday after the deflating defeat of his background-check plan the day before, greeted reporters with a smile as he rode an escalator up from the Capitol's subway platform. But the Pennsylvania Republican did not want to talk much about the fight that had put him at the center of the political and cultural maelstrom on gun laws.

"The Senate has spoken on this," Toomey said. "It's not obvious to me what alternative path forward there is. I gave this my best shot."

I am glad he failed. A new senator joining a “Gang” of compromisers headed by a big shot Democrat or established RINO who is using you for a fool amd making an ass of you in the eyes of the people who helped get you elected is not the way I like to see our Tea Party endorsed candidates end up. I hope Marco Rubio takes notice of this, he is doing the same thing.

I think this was best put by someone who said: “Did we make a mistake replacing Arlen Specter with this guy? We thought he was a conservative.”

I could say the same thing about Kirk.

He better start putting together his resume or change his party affiliation. Kirk is persona non gratis with us Illinois convservatives (yes, there are a few of us here).

Rubio is already toast except for the Rino establishment. I am starting to doubt Rush and Levin for supporting the amnesty lover.

My email to Toomey:

Senator Toomey:

You are a huge disappointment.

I was a hard core supporter (volunteer/money) for you in your primary run against Arlen Specter in 2004.

I was a hard core supporter (volunteer/money) for you in your win as a senator in 2010.

You are a huge disappointment as the MAIN supporter of the gun control schemes with President Obama and the Democrats.

Unless you come roaring back with support of other conservative issues you have lost me for your 2016 election.

In fact, unless I see something amazingly different, I will actively support who ever runs against you.

Both in the primaries and election.

"The Senate has spoken on this," Toomey said.

No, dip, the PEOPLE have spoken and, for a change, the Senate listened. At least SOME senators... cough, cough.

We have a lot of other very important issues to deal with such as getting the economy back on track

Good point. Why couldn't we have focused FIRST, SECOND and THIRD on getting the economy back on track, and ignored this pointless anti-gun bill that wasn't going to make any difference in the crime rate anyway?

Of course, "getting the economy back on track" to the Congress means quibbling over where to spend more money on social programs and which party thought of it first and should get credit, so I guess maybe we got lucky here in a way.

He used the economic issues - only to divert attention from his fall from grace from the 2nd Amend. He knows the economic dilemma is on everyone minds - so, his comment was to secure his place in the ‘good boy’ column so his supporters/voters will forget. IOW, his logic is..your rights aren’t as important as money.

...would have made it harder for criminals and the dangerously mentally ill...

Who is to determine who is mentally ill? Someone disagreeing with your stance on gun control or any subject for that matter? Go away Arlen...err Pat!

Thanks Timber Rattler.
Pat Toomey... seeming refreshed Thursday after the deflating defeat of his background-check plan the day before... "The Senate has spoken on this," Toomey said. "It's not obvious to me what alternative path forward there is. I gave this my best shot."
It also gave him a month or so of not having to weigh in about the Gosnell trial.

I will not pull the lever again for Toomey. He has shown himself to be Anti-2A.

Gee does that make it better?

PA has almost 1,000,000 CCWs and they spoke loud and clear yet Traitor Toomey ignored them all and sided with obama/schumer/rendell.

Calling him a traitor is actually one of the nicer things I can think of calling him.

I believe PA has more NRA members than any other state IIRC. Whoever serves needs to be accounable to the pro 2A population. Anyone who is not will not get my vote......its that simple.

Toomey will benefit from this, as he’s in a closely divided state that slides Demwit at least as often as not — and since it failed, it’s a have cake eat it too move. Rubio was already being condemned as a pro-amnesty RINO before this ‘Gang of Eight’ thing, and it will similarly not pass — either it will be heavily modified and slant to the left, or it will be amended to gut the open-ended provisions coveted by the left. And all the while, it hands Zero another defeat.
