Also to note, by saying what she says about Americans of the “dominant culture” needing to blame “the other”, she’s saying that if you think Islam or jihad had anything to do with the bombing, it is because you are fucked-up in the head, you are a bigot. I served in a majority black Army Reserve maintenance company for several years. Most of the soldiers performed well, a few had attitude, but I was appalled by the collective reaction when the unit got its first female commander. She was Afro-Korean, cafe-au-lait skin, very attractive. Father was black, husband is black. But the black soldiers, male or female regarded her as something other than black, not part of the “community”. In an effort to compensate, this young captain came down harder on whites than blacks for even minor matters. Gradually a gulf grew between her & her NCO’s, and she relinquished command after just fourteen months.
Racial prejudice is poisonous and can originate from any direction.
