Skip to comments.More arrests in Boston bombing case? Update: KDKA report confirming Mirror account?
Posted on 04/21/2013 11:44:13 AM PDT by Ernest_at_the_Beach
The death of one suspected bomber and the capture of the other on Friday in the Boston Marathon bombing may not be the end of arrests in the case. Yesterday afternoon, FBI and DHS agents arrived at the same New Bedford apartment complex where they had detained three people in the Friday manhunt for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, this time taking two away in handcuffs:
Agents wearing FBI and Department of Homeland Security jackets detained two men at the Hidden Brook apartment complex just hours after releasing three people believed to be associated with Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.
A neighbor who declined to identify herself said the same two men were among the three people taken into custody by the FBI Friday afternoon.
An FBI spokeswoman could not provide any information on the two men, both of whom were led away in handcuffs around 3:50 p.m. Saturday, or anything related to the apartment, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
Interestingly, this time the FBI and DHS didnt come alone. A consular vehicle from an unidentified nation also arrived, and transported two women out of the complex after the arrests took place:
Earlier Saturday afternoon, a silver mini-van with consulate license plates arrived at the Carriage Drive apartment along with the FBI and Homeland Security, and stayed a half an hour longer than the agents.
The van left with two women, neither of whom appeared to be restrained. One was carrying a pink backpack as she exited the apartment and ran into the van, which sped away as the women told reporters they did not wish to comment.
We noted the brief detention of two men and a woman on Friday afternoon, but the FBI left after Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was apprehended in Watertown. The police told the Standard-Times on Friday that the two men were believed to be fellow students at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth.
Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror in the UK reports that the FBI is investigating the possibility that the Tsarnaev brothers were part of a sleeper cell in the US that could contain a dozen operatives:
The FBI was last night hunting a 12-strong terrorist sleeper cell linked to the Boston marathon bomb brothers.
Police believe Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev were specially trained to carry out the devastating attack.
More than 1,000 FBI operatives were last night working to track down the cell and arrested a man and two women 60 miles from Boston in the hours before Dzhokhars dramatic capture after a bloody shootout on Friday.
A source close to the investigation said: We have no doubt the brothers were not acting alone. The devices used to detonate the two bombs were highly sophisticated and not the kind of thing people learn from Google.
They were too advanced. Someone gave the brothers the skills and it is now our job to find out just who they were. Agents think the sleeper cell has up to a dozen members and has been waiting several years for their day to come.
Its important to keep in mind that the FBI will be investigating all sorts of possibilities in connection to the attack. The travel pattern of Tamerlan Tsarnaev provides the potential for significant contact with radicals in Dagestan and Chechnya, but those contacts have yet to be established. Until the FBI and intelligence agencies find those contacts and develop those leads, they will keep all potential theories in play.
Speaking of which, House Intelligence chair Mike Rogers told NBCs Meet the Press that Tamerlan may have traveled to Russia using an alias:
Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich., said on NBCs Meet the Press Sunday that when Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the Boston Marathon bombing suspect killed Friday in a shootout with police, travelled to Russia in 2012, he may have done so under an alias.
Tamerlan Tsarnaevs six-month stay in Russia last year becomes extremely important as a key to the investigation of the Boston bombings, Rogers told NBCs David Gregory. His visit to Russia would lead one to believe that thats probably where he got that final radicalization to push him to commit acts of violence and where he may have received training in terrorist techniques. Rogers, a former FBI agent, said the FBI had questioned Tamerlan Tsarnaev after being given information from a foreign intelligence service that they were concerned about his possible radicalization.
But appearing on CNNs State of the Union Sunday, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R- S.C., said Tamerlan Tsarnaev is the kind of person you dont want to let out of your sight, and that it was a mistake for federal authorities to have lost track of him.
Either our laws are insufficient or the FBI failed, but were at war with radical Islamists and we need to up our game, the South Carolina Republican told CNN.
How did we find out so quickly about Tamerlans travels, though, if he traveled under an alias? Or did the FBI keep closer track of Tsarnaev than Lindsey Graham thinks?
Although Dzhokhar Tsarnaev remains in serious condition, officials plan to charge him in federal court quickly, perhaps as soon as today:
Federal officials hope to bring charges against Dzokhar Tsarnaev as early as today, a Department of Justice official tells CNNs Pamela Brown.
A law enforcement official tells CNN that Tsarnaev might be arraigned at the hospital. The 19-year-old suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing remains in serious, stable condition, under heavy guard at a Boston hospital. A judge is coming to his bedside.
Once charged in civil criminal court, options for investigators begin to narrow considerably in regard to interrogation. Its possible that they have already found what they wanted from the surviving Tsarnaev brother, which may be why FBI, DHS, and a consular van reappeared at the New Bedford apartment complex.
Update: The agents arrived yesterday afternoon, not last night. Ive corrected that in the first paragraph.
Update: The New York Daily News has photos of the two men, and report that they have been detained on immigration violations:
Two foreign nationals who are believed to be associates of the alleged Boston Marathon bombers were arrested Saturday on immigration violations, authorities said.
The men, identified by neighbors as 19-year-olds from Kazakhstan, drove around in a black BMW with the mock license plate, TERRORISTA #1.
The pair was hauled out of their New Bedford apartment in handcuffs about 3:50 p.m. The raid was carried out by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, a spokesman told the Daily News.
Immigration violations from Kazakhstan? Those dont usually require a consular van to collect associates. This is still a fluid situation and this lead may end up being nothing at all, so keep an open mind. The fact that federal investigators returned the next day and diplomatic intervention was required indicates that this is something a little more serious than a visa violation, or at least is suspected of being so.
Update: Bear in mind that this could still be (relatively) unrelated to the bombing. The FBI may have identified Tsarnaevs associates and detained them on Friday to get more intel on their fugitive, and then discovered an immigration issue either during or shortly after their interrogation. Given the nature of the larger case, they may have alerted the consulate to get involved immediately and accelerated the processing of the immigration issue to get them out of the way. Thats at least a possibility, so again, keep an open mind.
Update: Looks like KDKA has heard what the Mirror reported earlier:
Stay, er, tuned.
Update: Dzhokhar isnt saying much, at least not verbally:
Mayor Thomas Menino wondered aloud earlier today whether hed ever be able to talk with investigators. Lets hope that doctors make that happen as soon as possible.
KDKA Radio @KDKARadio
But Boston’s mayor insisted this morning that these two “acted alone”.
Heck, we all knew there were more than just the 2!
Gabriel Malor @gabrielmalor
Now I'm really wondering what Beck has for tomorrow...
Sleeper cells. Hah.
It’s kind of like when Augustus asked the Romans, ‘did you sleep with my daughter, did you?’
‘Not SLEPT, Caesar.’
Hopefully Obama hasn’t yet purged all the Bush era intelligence operatives, and somebody is putting ouit a cover story to allow time for the interrogation to be completed while the cell thinks nothing is going on.
More Saudi nationals being whisked away under cover of 0darkness?
I for one will be all ears for Beck tomorrow. He sounds like hes got six Congressmen, Steven Emerson, and some other reliable sources behind him.
petefrt on April 21, 2013 at 12:37 PM
That was quite a promise he made if the administration doesnt come clean on that Saudi national. Staying tuned in here too for the big bang tomorrow.

I never listen to anything "Mumbles" says.
All I can say is that this just not fit the Obama “we have to set aside our prejudices and wait for the proof” line he’s been spewing. The FBI, if this report is true, is gonna get their cojones in a snit fit vise grip from Janet, Eric, Valerie and Choomy Cheese...
To admit there is/was a 12 person ‘cell’ of Islamic terrorism here comprised of homegrown political refugees and God knows who the hell else immigrants (illegal or otherwise), gullible low IQ natural citizens and the like, is UNTHINKABLE in the face of the Pravda Narrative from the OREGIME.
I remind you, there is still probably a contingent of “we gots to find that racist, disgruntled right wing old white guy” effort. The media has not given up, why should the FBI screw it all up and go for the truth...
More from the comments:
..A few days ago after the release of the video, I said this person had drawn my attention on the released video d/t her actions of ignoring these guys as they passed through her line of vision, and then immediately using her handheld phone to call someone after theyd passed her, possibly signaling someone else that the plan was on course:
Is this the same person? The two look eerily similar:

Sorry for sounding political but this I believe and cannot ignore.

That wasn't "wondering aloud", that's how he talks.
Immigration violations? Heck, if they haven't killed anybody they can just wait on Obama's amnesty.
Exactly right. By the time Obama and Napolitano had been in there a couple years, the whole FBI had received so much “sensitivity Training, “ they were brain washed. And if any one did pursue a Moslem lead they’d have been told, “you’re focused on an agenda, we’re transferring you off the case.”
Don’t you just know that Juan McCain and Lindsey Graham are going to be all ***holes and elbows this week trying to sneak their Freeway To Amensty Bill through. They’ve got to be in total panic mode right now.
Mnnino and the Watertown police chief are in the role that Susan Rice was cast post-Beghazi. “Don’t tell ‘em anything and put them out on the Sunday shows” to further the cover-up of Obama’s disregard of American security.
How do foreign news media get more detail than USA Media gets....
You mean to the left on the video, the woman in the striped shirt leaning up against the building? Possibly. But lots of woman have long dark hair.
The ignorant Boston mayor acted alone on that stupid statement (I hope).
In the midst of all this activity, I haven't seen much attention paid to Obama's phone conversation with Putin in which he is supposedly to have thanked Vlad effusively for his help and cooperation in this matter.
What is that all about??? What information or actions could have been discussed about this matter so early in the investigation between two Heads of State?
WTF is going on???
Thanks to the UK reporters doing the job that left wing mediots refuse to do in America, ie, report the real news.
Boston bombers: FBI hunting 12-strong terrorist sleeper cell linked to brothers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev

“Go to the link below for the full story, that isn’t being told in America by our lying left wing mediots.”
I see what you mean. Same build, approx. height and similar hair. Looks like she was one who was arrested not one who was driven away in the consulate car.
Yes, but he’ll give the same old diversionist “I don’t know and (no update) if I did, I couldn’t comment on an open investigation....blah blah blah...”
Clinton perfected it when he was going through his “I didn’t have sex with that woman, Monica Lewinsky” period — can’t comment on ongoing independent investigator stuff, and I gotta get back to doing the business of the American people....
Lakes and Spurs are on so I will be in and out.
That conular car showing up is very interesting....could be Russian....
Great work guys, do you remember a story of two Russian guys showing up at this apt after the cops alleging to be NY post reporters, they entered the apt thru an unlocked slider and left with items. Can’t find the article. Wonder is FSB was sanitizing a scene.
I.E. they are intimidated.
Yes,...mot much more on that.
If there are any more in a cell, the Feds are going to keep quiet about it.
They went away for a couple of weeks a few months ago but they did not say where. I dont know if they went back to Kazakhstan
Two Russian speaking men in their early 20s later arrived at the apartment and told reporters they were journalists from the Boston Globe.
They then entered the apartment through an unlocked patio door. When asked what they were doing they said: We are friends of theirs. They are talking, they are talking and closed the door.
When MailOnline rang the City desk of the Boston Globe, a man said: Were very busy right now. Consider us informed.

I hadn’t heard about that.
Knowing Beck, you'll be wondering Tuesday as well.
Lindsey Graham said, “Either our laws are insufficient...”
Expect a new law outlawing terror attacks and pressure cookers. See, if you just outlaw it, the bad guys won’t do it.
They should have called the FBI not the Boston Globe.
They don't, they just don't choose to bury it to protect their creation the way the US media does.
What the F CK , what kind of investigation leaves the scene without securing the apt, I understand getting a warrant but normally you leave a few guys to watch the building. Here they let our friends from Russia in to do a little clean up. Either gross incompetence or wink and nod agency coop.
Yes, I saw the resemblance.
Another connection to look into is U/Mass Dartmouth Associate Professor of Islamic History Brian Glyn Williams. Please note, I am NOT suggesting Williams is in any way implicated, but he said he had contact with the older Tamerlan, and then this last year, Dzhokher enrolled at the Dartmouth campus. Apparently there is a circle of students of Chechen origin at U/Mass Dartmouth. Don’t know if Dzhokher took classes under Williams.
Williams claims to have worked for the US military and the CIA and wrote the book “Predators: the CIA Drone War on al Qaeda” which is scheduled to be out in July
Williams is described as an expert on terrorism and Chechnya, as well as terrorism elsewhere, and with a grant from the school kept an online record of all the drone strikes in Central and South Asia: http://www.umassdrone.org/
Through Willliams, the Tsarnaev brothers may have made contact with others who were very interested in terrorism and Chechnyan terrorism for less than innocent reasons.
Again I could find nothing to suggest that Williams is in any way sympathetic with the terrorists, indeed, he has described the drone usage by the CIA in quite positive terms
“...were at war with radical Islamists and we need to up our game, the South Carolina Republican, Linseed Graham told CNN.
No fooling Sherlock?!
There was a suitcase with $2 million on a table in a room. In the room were fourpeople, Santa Claus, an honest lawyer, a crooked lawyer, and a moderate Muslim. The lights when out for a minute. When the lights came back on the suitcase was gone. Who stole the suitcase?
Answer: The crooked lawyer. How do we know? Neither Santa Claus nor the honest attorney nor the moderate Muslim exists.
“Mayor Thomas Menino wondered aloud earlier today whether hed ever be able to talk with investigators. Lets hope that doctors make that happen as soon as possible.”
The words “wondered aloud” should be “mumbled aloud”. What is more important is whether Mayor Thomas “Mumbles” Menino will bring a translator who can translate Menino into English and vice versa.
We may have found someone who has the potential to connect people with the actors in Russia. I guarantee this guy is on the FSB’s watch list with his articles.
