Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reform (March 19, 2013 Article)

WASHINGTON — Sen. Rand Paul is calling for conservatives to embrace the cause of immigration reform, outlining a proposal that would grant some form of legal status to the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants after the federal government has certified that the border is secure.

Paul’s proposal, outlined in a speech to the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in Washington on Tuesday, carefully avoided the term citizenship. Instead, the Kentucky senator said he sought a middle ground that would include a multi-year process of granting visas to undocumented workers that would hinge on the annual verification of the security of the U.S.-Mexico border.

Paul echoed the key finding of an internal review from the Republican National Committee that called for the party to recast its image in order to attract minority voters, saying the GOP must change the perception of the party as anti-immigrant.

Latinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but “Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration.”

Right, because it all leads to that so why not be honest Rand instead of hanging it on the USA after you get the "incremental" stuff out of the way?

Paul & Rubio had a good thing going until now. Now I would vote for neither for any office. They have already been washingtonized. I for one am disgusted...I had hopes , now dashed.

Rand is a leader but he’s not going to go all out when the votes aren’t there. He’s not going to fight a losing battle in the Senate...

He’ll try his best but he’s limited.

I think the House is where the battle is.

We need to make sure it goes through the committee process and is exposed for what it is.

If they ram this through the Senate I cannot see the House liking this in its current form.

But we dont know what Boehner will do.

We just need to make sure it goes through the Judiciary Committee and it’ll be exposed because it’s a BAD bill and the congressman will pick it apart.

Samuel Adams: "“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.”

Uh......They're not all Latino. They're also from, say, Russia, Syria, Lebanon, Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, North Korea...........
The two Boston bombers were "legalized"or "acceptable" immigrants. How well did that turn out? Huh?

Close the frigging boarders! How many attacks does it take??

Rand Paul’s big backers must want immigration reform. I have no idea who is big backers are, but one could only assume that he aligned with their interests.

Hey Rand you monkey , and all other senator idiots:

4% of the American public agree with you on this immigration/amnesty crap. the media is controlling you.

the American people don't want Amnesty and we don't care about illegals nor immigrants, all we want them is out of our country and to leave us alone. And it's not just conservatives most people don't care about illegals and don't want a torrent of immigrants. we have enough people just not enough opportunity . let their countries take care of them

“we cannot afford to deport them all.”

Bullshit. We can afford it and we can do it. If only we had the will. Which we don’t. Yet.

Make them self-deport. Cut off all funding for mosques, and make it clear the Muslims are not welcome here, that this is a Judeo-Christian country.

There’s a thin line between libertarianism and anarchy. Paul’s stance on immigration will bring anarchy. You cannot have increased individual freedom with a world government, which is where open borders will ultimately lead. The beauty of the Republic is that it was supposed to leave more power in the hands of the people through State and local government, with minimal control by the Federal government. That structure has been undermined by power hungry federal politicians, weak state politicians, and a culture of dependence. Opening up the borders will just deepen the existing crisis and ensure that individual liberties are further weakened. Paul doesn’t even understand his own philosophy.

There’s a thin line between libertarianism and anarchy,

Actually I see it as a thin line between greedy loser politicians who will do absolutely anything just to get re-elected, and the very few honest patriotic politicians that put the USA first.

Our Congress is full of the former and not the latter. Instead we pay losers of both Parties to outsource our economy to Mexico and China while in-sourcing uneducated illegal immigrants. The policy makers all work directly for the corrupt greedy Wall St bankster thieves that Christ once threw out of the temple because of their embedded philosophy of corruption.

i disagree. we cannot afford to deport them allt.

Who says it has to cost anything? Make them pay their way back. They can clean sewers for free for all I care.

And no, they won't self deport, never have, never will.
