US committed to providing non-lethal aid to Syria opposition

US Secretary of State John Kerry says the US will double its non-lethal assistance to Syria's opposition as the rebels' top supporters vowed to enhance and expand their backing of the two-year battle to oust President Bashar Assad's regime. The additional aid, which brings total non-lethal US assistance to the opposition to $250 million since the fighting began, highlighted the United States' support for a political solution to the crisis in Syria, Mr Kerry said.

That would qualify as "lethal" aid... and would be cruel.

We’re giving them money to spend on “on lethal” aid so they can spend more of their own money on the lethal stuff ... makes a lot of sense!

Syria opposition voices frustration with international backers

One senior opposition figure said arms were already being sent from some countries but acknowledging this at the meeting would provide cover for countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar to openly help the rebels. “The world must know if they don’t agree on our right to receive weapons this will be the last meeting the opposition attend. We will not attend any meetings after this,” he told Reuters.

Syria: Negotiated political settlement is the only option
A negotiated political settlement is the only option despite failed regional intervention and the lack of vision shown by the main opposition

[snip] ...it is clear the dictatorship is not serious in calling for a negotiated political solution. President Bashar Al Assad is confident that the opposition’s political forces no longer represent real power, neither in the arena of military confrontation nor in the eyes of most Syrians. All regional and international attempts to unify the military factions have failed to create a command with a defined political programme. Qatari and Turkish actions in forming an interim government and giving Syria’s Arab League seat to the SNC have produced a major rift between the Saudi and Qatari positions, and this is reflected in the military field. The Saudis, ironically, support the more secular forces, while the Qataris support the Islamists. [/snip]

It was nice of Russia to help create the problem by going all-in to support the dictatorship. Iran has trained 50,000 paramilitary thugs, and they’re not going to accept any “negotiated” settlement. Assad will have to be assassinated to leave office. He started the bloodshed (if one doesn’t count the massacres carried out by his father), and now every jihadist faction on Earth appears to be fighting inside Syria, or recruiting proxies (as Iran has done, training Syrian thugs and employing the Hizzies from jihadist occupied Lebanon), all fighting each other. The main combat phase may go on for two or three more years, but there will be no more unified faux-nation of Syria.

Syria's opposition

More 'Arab Spring' type nonsense.

Who are we giving money to?
Exactly who, or what, is "Syria's opposition" ?
Who are the 'rebels' trying to overthrow the Bashar Assad government?

They are really Obama's old pals, known to most of us as Al-Qaeda.
