It's just “preliminary” evidence. Could be that Tamerlan, when he wasn't busy favoriting Chechen jihadist videos on YouTube, was building up an explosive hatred of marathons.
This AP story is actually newsy, not because of the conclusion officials have drawn but because of how they drew it:
Two U.S. officials say preliminary evidence from an interrogation suggests the suspects in the Boston Marathon attack were motivated by religion but were apparently not tied to any Islamic terrorist groups.
The two ethnic Chechen brothers practiced Islam.
The U.S. officials spoke Monday on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss the investigation.
Whose interrogation? If they got it from a family member, that’s not news. More than one has already talked to reporters about Tamerlan becoming more religious over the last few years. If they got it from Dzhokhar, obviously that’s big news. Stay tuned.
The NYT has a transcript of today’s bedside magistrate hearing. I knew they’d given him the Miranda warnings but it turns out he got the deluxe version. On page 4, the magistrate warns him three times that he doesn’t have to talk to police. He has a lawyer now too, so let me clip this part in anticipation of the next round of moral peacocking about how they’re denying him access to counsel, etc:
Via Mediaite, here’s a possible lead from CNN. Tamerlan Tsarnaev posted a video last year of a Chechen jihadi who operated out of Dagestan, the same region that Tsarnaev visited in 2012. The Chechen was killed by Russian forces last year. Was the clip inspiration or something more?
And Obama said Terrorists were no more.

Yeah, they were motivated by “religion” - after all they’re ALL the same, doesn’t matter which one it was, right?
And, they KNOW they acted alone, because?.....the surviving bomber said so?
My view is the motivation was one of these:
1) Despair over UMass not making the NCAA tournament
2) Despair over Kim Kardashian choosing Kanye West to father her love child instead of one of them.
Certainly as good as any MSM theories....

I’m so comforted that this couldn’t have been assisted or funded by Our Friends the Saudis.
Let’s presume they had help and training..for the next couple years.
Let’s not jump to stupid conclusions until we investigate and then finally pry the truth out of our Regime.
Two things opur Government does not want to hear.
That the attack was based on the religious cult Islam and that he had partners.
They admitted he acted on the cult, but they try to deny he had accomplices.
I’m sure Obama considers them freedom fighters not terrorists, that’s why he spends so much of our money arming them. Personally I consider all of these muslim groups terrorists and Obama a grade A extra large Extremist that is out to destroy America in as many ways as possible, internally and externally.

I'm convinced that this Boston bombing was to be the vehicle by which white'gun owners' were to be blamed and much more intrusive gun laws and perhaps confiscations instituted. Of course my Alcoa helmet is getting a little tight, but there it is.

Me: There are at least several thousand "U.S. Officials" who should be seriously considering a radical change of profession.

And lack elementary common sense.
As well as a firm grasp of elementary cultural literacy.
If only there was something to go on, some evidence or even a clue of some sort.
Anything at all that helps shed some light on the reason muslims become terrorists.
