George W. Bush Tells Jeb to ‘Run,’ Says Jeb vs. Hillary Would Make ‘Fantastic Photo’ [VIDEO]
ABC News ^ | 4-24-2012 | Rick Klein

Posted on 04/24/2013 4:03:05 PM PDT by bimboeruption

Former President George W. Bush says he isn’t interested in playing on the national political stage any longer. But for family, he’s making an exception.

Asked in an interview with ABC News’ Diane Sawyer whether he thinks his brother former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush should run for president in 2016, the ex-president was unequivocal.

“He’d be a marvelous candidate if he chooses to do so. He doesn’t need my counsel ’cause he knows what it is, which is ‘run,’ ” the elder Bush brother said about Jeb’s possible candidacy, in an interview that first aired Wednesday on “World News with Diane Sawyer.” “But whether he does or not, it’s a very personal decision.”

The former president even allowed himself to picture the potential 2016 matchup: Jeb Bush vs. Hillary Rodham Clinton. It would be a family rematch of the 1992 election, when George H.W. Bush lost to Bill Clinton.

“It’ll be a fantastic photo here. It would certainly eclipse the museum and the center,” Bush said on the eve of the formal opening of the George W. Bush Presidential Center at Southern Methodist University, just outside Dallas. “I’m interested in politics. I’m, you know, I’m fascinated by all the gossip and stuff that goes on. But the field won’t be become clear ’til after the midterms.”

Asked for a word of advice to the Republican Party, the former president struck an optimistic note amid rounds of GOP soul-searching: “You will exist in the future,” he said with a smile.

On several major issues, though, Bush made clear he’s staying away from day-to-day political battles.

If Jeb stood up and said, "my brother is a good man...but he was wrong about Islam. It isn't a "religion of peace"...it is a religion of Satan.

And until we begin to name it and fight it...we haven't even begun to save ourselves...our civilization.

If Jeb said that...I might listen to him.

Two observations:

1. He opposed oil & natural gas drilling off the Florida coast.

2. He stated he would be willing to raise taxes in a deal with the ‘RATS...just like dear ol’ dad.

Two Country Club Republicans named Bush in the Oval Office is enough.

I don't blame W's policies for our problems, but I do blame his compromise and "reaching across the aisle" to appease the left for the Dems winning. I'm not in the mood for four more years of this, assuming Jeb could even beat Hillary.

Read my lips, no new Bushes.

I don’t care about “fantastic photos”, I care about turning this nation around. That will NOT happen with a RINO candidate. We tried that two elections in a row.... and we now have the United Socialist States of Amerika.

“Jeb Bush was best Governor that Florida has had in my lifetime.”

RINO. I know a state employee who got his job privatized under Bush. Virtually all of those who lost their jobs to contractors became supervisors of the contractors who were now doing their jobs. The privatization would have worked if they’d eliminated the workers who had their job privatized. Or, at least sent them off to do other jobs. But, instead of handling phone calls, my buddy listens in to a contractor who handles the phone calls.

Laura is pro-abortion. Which means to me she is not "lovely."

What is this love affair some freepers have with the Bushes? I see comments on this very thread airing on the side of "Well, maybe one more Bush..."

NO NO NO. Bush has become a dirty word. It will be a landslide defeat for the gop if Jeb runs. If he is nominated I would be convinced once and for all that the gop wants to lose in order to forward the marxist leftist agenda.

Even if Jeb could win (which he absolutely could not), what good would it be to us? We need a real conservative, not a democrat masquerading as a conservative. The Bushes epitomize the lite section of the republican party.

Well, I couldn’t imagine a room of people screaming “Mitt, Mitt!”, and he seemed to do ok.

Mitt won because, one by one, the Conservative choices self destructed. Bachmann led early but gaffed herself out of the nomination. Cain led later, but he either couldn't control himself or caved under false accusations. I hope it was the latter and he caved due to inexperience, because I still think he would be a great choice if that was the case.

The rest of the candidates were simply ineffective.

"I’m more interested in a great conservative leader"

Does such a thing even exist anymore? I often lose track of how long ago Reagan was, and then get a gutcheck when I realize its been 24 long years. And Reagan, in his dress, his appearance, his oratory skills, and his moral courage was a throwback even then.

I cannot think of one person today who is even remotely close to Reagan. And if such a person did exist, he wouldn't win in this godless, soulless place that was once the greatest nation on earth. Freedom's last stand on earth, to quote Reagan...
