A Kentucky middle school has changed its dress code after a student was sent to the office for wearing a Support Our Troops T-shirt, a spokeswoman told TheBlaze.
That school would be Mahaffey Middle School, which is actually located on the Fort Campbell Army base.
Student Cejai Taylor told Nashville Fox affiliate WZTV she wore the T-shirt right after her dad, Sgt. James Taylor, was sent on his sixth deployment overseas. Mahaffey requires all students to wear collared shirts, but has dress-down days once a month where they can wear jeans and school-approved shirts. The Support Our Troops shirt was not approved, and a teacher saw Taylor wearing it and told her to go to the office.
Her mother, Cassandra Taylor, said she chose to pick her daughter up from school instead of making her change her clothes.
Im not going to make her change, shes standing her ground and as her mother and as a military wife I support my child, Cassandra Taylor said. Its a military school on a military base.
Cindy Gibson, a spokeswoman for the Department of Defense education system, told TheBlaze on Wednesday that patriotic T-shirts will now be permitted on dress-down days.
Weve incorporated patriotic T-shirts [into the dress code], Gibson said.

Wouldn’t want members of service families being proud of.....service members.
Let's have that teacher's name and contact info. They need a lesson in the price of freedom. Maybe they can lose a little of theirs, so that they appreciate it more.
A brouhaha over a support our troops T-shirt at a military school, on a military base!?
Doesn’t anybody out there have a lick of sense anymore!?
This nonsense has to stop. Parents need to take the schools back no matter where they are located, every day it just gets more ridiculous.
He/she also needs a lesson in common sense. Only an idiot would have considered this shirt inappropriate.
A real head-slapper. I guess it’s too much to ask that teachers and administrators have common sense.
I'm sure now they will eventually try to ban the Marines because their rank insignia shows two crossed rifles. They can also ban the Army because a CIB depicts a musket. Zero tolerance!!
No post commanders on the army post cared to weight in???
Call me when they change superintendant.
Fire the b*stard/b*tch.
I was thinking the same thing. God bless out troops and support their families!
I really think mom is overreacting here. Usually, in these cases, it is the school personnel acting leftist, but it appears here that the school was enforcing an existing policy.
The students are expected to wear shirts with collars, and this particular shirt did not have a collar. I doubt the school was acting against support of the troops.
Commander of Fort Campbell needs to have the DoD School system at least fire the so-called teacher who started this.
This was, apparently, a dress-down day:

Sew a collar on the shirt and send her back with it. Then we’ll see what the real problem is.

Yipes! I was way off the mark here. Sorry. Skimmed a bit too much, apparently.
I take back what I said. Sounds like the staff deserves all of the criticism voiced here.
