Maricopa County Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox is urging Republican Gov. Jan Brewer to veto a bill requiring cities and counties to sell guns turned over to police at community buyback events rather than having them destroyed.
Wilcox sent a letter to Brewer Wednesday pleading with her to veto the bill and keep the guns from returning to the streets where they could be used for violent acts.
The Arizona House and Senate have approved House Bill 2455. Republican backers say destroying guns turned over to local governments is a waste of taxpayer resources.
Wilcox is a Democrat who champions gun buybacks and survived being shot in the buttocks at the end of a 1997 Board meeting. She says the bill would force the resale of guns the owners wanted destroyed.
She was shot by a citizen who disliked that she vote against the express wishes of the population (by referendum) to create a stadium "district" then became a member of that "district" then voted to fund the gross corporate welfare for the Stadium, as I recall.
I’m fairly indifferent over this... the vast majority of guns turned in at these things are junk anyhow, and deserve no better fate than being scrapped.

Absolutely. I’m just saying that it mostly dosn’t matter to me what they do with the rusty Brycos and battered RGs that people turn in.
Any word on whether Brewer intends to sign this law? She’s been pretty unreliable on guns since she secured her Nomination to be reelected.
It’s the principle of the thing. If cities are allowed to destroy guns wholesale, without consideration of their value, then Judges are tempted to illegally order citizens’ weapons to be destroyed in civil cases.
This happens a lot in California.
There are some valuable and historic guns turned in at these buybacks by people who have no idea how valuable they are.
It is the principle, correct.
Local governments should not destroy valuable property to make political theater in order to weaken the Constitution.
