The body of a young man found in the Providence River on Tuesday may be that of Sunil Tripathi, a student at Brown University who disappeared March 16, police told CNN.

A Brown rowing coach reported a body in the river near India Point Park, Lindsay Lague, a spokeswoman for the Providence Police Department, said Wednesday.

Lague said authorities may be able to identify the body as soon as Thursday morning.

When asked if it might be Tripathi, Detective Mark Sacco said it was "likely" but was cautious to say they won't know who it is until the medical examiner makes a determination.

The body is a man between the ages of 18 and 30, he said.

The Tripathi family's search for the 22-year-old philosophy major has been detailed on a Facebook page, "Help us find Sunil Tripathi."

They temporarily took down the page after they were inundated by ugly comments when Sunil Tripathi was falsely accused on social media of being one of the Boston Marathon bombers.

**After the FBI released images of Suspect 1 and Suspect 2, people took to sites such as Reddit, a real-time message board, and Twitter speculating that Tripathi looked like one of the suspects.

Reddit's general manager apologized to the Tripathi family for the misinformation.**

Is Tripathy Muslim?

Kinda answers the question, doesn’t it?

Speaking of identification and mis-identification of the bombers, what ever happened to the guy in the big puffy coat with the baby carriage? For a while he was suspect #1 here on FR.

A thread from yesterday if anyone is interested in the comments thereon.

Heartbreak as police 'find body of missing college student FALSELY accused..

In the early hours of 16 March Sunil Tripathi left the apartment he shared with other students on Angell Street in the Rhode Island city of Providence and walked into the darkness. At 1.33am a CCTV camera caught him pacing across a zebra crossing, hands pushed inside the pockets of his ski jacket, and then he was gone.....

Last week, a lot of people thought they had seen Sunil Tripathi. Indeed, some people were so convinced he looked like one of two men identified by police as suspects in the Boston bombing that even before officials had named the two suspects, countless numbers of people were claiming the young man was the subject of a massive, unprecedented manhunt......

From the article >>22 year old philosophy major struggling with depression<<< How does this happen at 22? He had the whole world in his hands and his whole life ahead of him, what does a 22 y/o have to be depressed about?

First bomber deceased. I read elsewhere that the 2nd bomber found in the boat had no weapons - so who did the police have a shoot-out with? Did someone want him dead? Now we find another possible person who may be associated with the bombing and he’s dead. The dead can’t talk....

And then there was the three unsolved murders a few months back (one of the dead was the “best friend” of the terrorist). Something fishy, I’d say. But I’d better shut up, get to work and pay my taxes. Who am I to question my betters?

I don’t believe in coincidences. We have the bombing, the Saudi that Michelle visited, this body and the Ricin letters all happen at the same time.

There is probably a connection to all of them.

You’re joking right? At 22 years old I would get depressed if a girl didn’t want to date me anymore. Or my resume got rejected. Or if my haircut was bad. And I imagine if I had been a philosophy major it would have been SO MUCH worse!

Would not surprised me if these took place at the same time for devestating effects.

At age 22 I was disappointed that there were girls who didn’t date me. A few decades later I said “Thank God they didn’t.” (Yes, I’m married, over 30 years to the same woman.)

Depression is not a rational phenomenon, you can be depressed with no obvious reason for you to feel sadness or hopelessness.

“Now we find another possible person who may be associated with the bombing and he’s dead.”

What a load of crap. The guy was falsely speculated to be the man in photographs who we now know was Dzokhar Tsarnaev, not this man. So he is not associated with the bombing, not even “may be” associated. The only association is because he was wrongly accused by armchair internet detectives.
