The unemployment rate dropped by half while Harding was in office among other positive things.
But Harding did have scandals like Teapot Dome that did cast a slight mark on his time in office in spite of his positive accomplishments.
Coolidge was able to restore public confidence in the White House after the scandals.
That's why they are afraid of guns, things that go 'boom', armies, navies, and air forces, (not to mention Marines), because they know the horror they would wreak given the opportunity to do so unbridled--and that scares them, as it should.
They assume that their fantasies of inflicted slaughter and worse would be equally held by their political opponents toward them, and in attempting to preempt that projected mindset by focusing their distrust on their political opponents, attempting to control and impose compliance with their beliefs, they may well cause the very threat that only exists in the darkest depths of their paranoid delusions.
They really do have a mental disorder.
