SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- The California Assembly passed a bill on Thursday that would make the state the first in the nation to allow non-citizens who are in the country legally to serve on jury duty.

Assemblyman Bob Wieckowski, D-Fremont, said his bill, AB1401, would help California widen the pool of prospective jurors and help integrate immigrants into the community.

If non-citizens can serve on juries, it is only fair that the can vote.

This is what the Democrats and mainstream media are really after. Giving the vote to these 12-20 million Hispanic illegals is top of the left's agenda and has been since the last amnesty. After socialized medicine, it's the liberal holy grail.

The proposition is far worse.

Non citizens are not my peers and have a different understanding of laws here in Merika®

Sorry, CA conservatives. Leave while you can.

Conservatives should leave CA not only for themselves, but to support/insulate other purple/red states and make them more right of center. The faster productive people leave CA, Illinois, NY, etc, the quicker those states will implode. We need to further the blue/red divide which will make liberal blue states less and less able to compete.

Why not have a non-citizen judge preside?

Why stop there? Screw American law! Use Mexican law! Oh wait - that's probably harsher! Nevermind

Brilliant! Open our formerly constitutional system of self governance to those who have no knowledge of our laws, the tradition they were born upon, the rich history behind their founding.

Of course, the California legal system will avail the illegals with UN-style translator headphones. This is boring, can we just go home now?

Ya, dude, he’s a homie, not guilty. Just like that, a jury of homies. This gringo just looks guilty, can we just go home now?

Non-citizens may be wonderful folks but they’re not our “Peers”. This proposal won’t fly long.

Liberals will argue that, if an illegal immigrant is to be tried for a crime, then a "jury of his peers" would be his fellow illegals.

It's only fair...

Look at the bright side: “peers” with more common sense than most other Californians.

yes, but it is only by extension that a foreigner inside USA has full constitutional rights (you can dig up court cases indicating this, yes) ... traditional notions of sovereignty do not agree with this attitude, however, and as it happens neither do I.

a foreigner inside our country is either a legal guest or an illegal alien ... not a citizen.

but yes, you are correct to be sure...
our legal system is largely broken at any event, insofar as justice is concerned. the qualification (or lack thereof) of a certain high-office-holder is but the latest examplar of how our legal system is dysfunctional nowadays.

and everyone (including the gang members in the big cities..and the terrorists coming into USA through our open borders policy....all) know it. alas

Automatic jury nullification for all accused named Guittierez, Gonzalez, etc;

Anything, anything at all to cancel out and scramble the system.

This is insane. I know of several foreigners who cannot and/or simply refuse to adhere to existing law. They aren't hoodlums, they are businessmen. They just don't agree with our laws. I can't imagine any of them sitting on a jury. Besides, doesn't having a "jury of your peers" refer to your fellow American?

liberals are insane.

>>A NON-citizen is not one of my peers.<<

How can you say that when you paid for his wife to give birth and you have paid to feed, clothe, educate, arrest and imprison the young man she calls her son?

I thought that the jury pool was the pool of registered voters. Is that not the case? How would you select these non-citizen, non-registered voters?

In some states, the jury pool comes from the DMV, either in addition to or instead of registered voters. I was selected for jury duty once after I moved to a new city, before I had registered to vote, because I had changed my driver's license.

I’ll probably never set foot inside CA again.

Occupied territory as far as I’m concerned. It’d be nice if the other states could vote these places out of the union.

If I said it in engrish I’d be on double time out or Zot.

I spoke in the language and terms that these New
Peers would.

Honestly, I’m considering petitioning the queen for a New Narmada of ships in search of a New land....

CA courts, criminal in the dock, criminals on the jury, criminal judge on the bench and criminal lawyers at both tables. Justice?
