LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - A semi truck carrying 80 pounds of gun powder overturned Thursday morning closing one lane of Interstate 65 near Lafayette.

It happened around 3:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-65 near mile 171 (between the Ind. 38 and Ind. 26 exits).

Investigators says the driver swerved to avoid a deer, then overcorrected in the interstate median and finally ended up in a ditch.

Gunpowder is a propellant, not an explosive. It is safer to handle than gasoline.

A deer? As a CDL driver, you NEVER SWERVE FOR AN ANIMAL! Especially when carrying GUNPOWDER?

This person needs to lose their license.

“”””Investigators says the driver swerved to avoid a deer, then overcorrected in the interstate median and finally ended up in a ditch.”””

We need to ban deer.

Eight pounds? Big deal. It’s sold in 8 pound plastic containers at the gun shop.

That's not a typo.

It was a UPS truck, and when they checked the manifest they found the powder listed along with everything else.

Two cases of 4 pound jugs.

It was a UPS truck that had one 80 lb box containing gunpowder in among all the other stuff that a UPS semi would be carrying.” So Hazmat was called. So the journolists learned about it.

Sheesh. Journolists are so stupid. This was not news but the pantywaists hear “gunpowder”and the world comes to an end.

Hang all journolists.

I agree, not only safer to handle than gasoline but a whole lot safer.

Also why in the world would a semi be carrying 80 lbs. of anything?

"Also why in the world would a semi be carrying 80 lbs. of anything?

Because the other 39,920 lbs. of lading were condoms that had already been delivered to Sandra Fluke.

Never never never swerve to miss a deer. That can be a fatal mistake. Where I have to drive to work is like running a gauntlet through the deer. I have considered having a cow catcher attached to the front of my SUV.

80#? That’s what a weekend at a reenactment uses. If artillery is firing its what is used in about ten minutes when six cannon are operating. This is nothing.

This is worse than the truck that spilled all of that beer on the highway!
