Former British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill will be featured on a British banknote set to begin circulation in 2016, the Bank of England said.

A portrait of Churchill, adapted from a Dec. 30, 1941, photograph taken by Yousuf Karsh, and his famous declaration "I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat" will be featured on the five-pound banknote, the BBC reported Friday.

Churchill will replace social reformer Elizabeth Fry on the banknote.

Bank of England Gov. Sir Mervyn King announced the new banknote from Churchill's former home of Chartwell, in Westerham, Kent.

"Our banknotes acknowledge the life and work of great Britons. Sir Winston Churchill was a truly great British leader, orator and writer," King said. "Above that, he remains a hero of the entire free world. His energy, courage, eloquence, wit and public service are an inspiration to us all."

The Bank of England said the new banknote will be put into circulation in 2016.

British banknotes are redesigned on a relatively regular basis in an effort to maintain security and prevent forgeries, the BBC said. The Bank of England governor has the final say about who appears on a banknote.

"Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."

"Some people regard private enterprise as a predatory tiger to be shot. Others look on it as a cow they can milk. Not enough people see it as a healthy horse, pulling a sturdy wagon."

Sure waited a long time

Modern Brits probably have little knowledge of him (as Americans D. Eisenhower .. etc.), and the muzzie population will be large enough at that time that the damned things may be burnt in Trafalgar Square just to show their disdain for a leader of the nation that allowed them to be animals in a civilized country.

What're you waitin' for, Jesus ... Come now.

Modern Brits probably have little knowledge of him

Back in 2002 the BBC ran 100 Greatest Britons based on a TV poll for the greatest Brits of all time. He won. They haven't yet forgotten him. Probably in part because he made such great copy; the press can't resist talking about him.
