Maher On Boston Manhunt: "This Country Is Becoming A Police State" (video)

On the Friday broadcast of his HBO show Real Time, host Bill Maher opined on the police force used in Boston following the twin bombings and during the manhunt for the younger Tsarnaev brother in the suburb of Watertown.

"I want to talk about the police," Bill Maher said. "I want to talk about the police, who I am a supporter of and of course, obviously, we all are. We would be in big trouble without the police."

Maher proceeded to show images of what the police presence looked like in a urban city like Boston.

"I mean, if this is what you have, why don't you invade a country?" Maher opined. "I mean, go up to Canada, take their oil."

"You might want to call it an urban assault vehicle," Maher said of the half-track vehicle manned by the Boston Police Department.

"This country is becoming a police state and it is very troubling to me," Maher observed.

Are you saying that you sanction what was done by the police? Really?

I’m hearing lots of complaining from both sides but no answers. After all, in the days of posses they often behaved very much the same way as police do today. Innocent people were sometimes killed, warrantless searches conducted, and property destroyed.

I personally think the answer is somewhere in the middle with no expectation of perfection. Maybe fewer cops with greater citizen involvement and people smart enough to stay out of their way without being warned with those staying in their homes having the option of being armed.

If anything good can come out of that, maybe it’s Bill’s liberal audience will wake up as well...

There was a time when this was true. Now, the criminals would be in big trouble if the police were not around. IMO, police became administrators and keepers after citizens became adept at weeding out the bad characters.

I remember living in Boston forty five years ago during times of unrest and having a cop stationed every twenty feet on both sides of the streets for weeks on end. With squad cars on the corners. The gear was just regular uniforms with helmets and shields and clubs.

This is nothing new. This is the history of our country.

Read a little political history by Richard Maybury.

I don’t necessarily sanction what was done but to infer as Maher does from one extremely limit incidence that America is becoming a police state is beyond absurd.

This country has always been a police state. At least in the 20th century forward. Softcoated but still fascist. The gloves are coming off though.

Stupidity state, more like. If we really were a police state, this bozo would have been locked away years ago. Instead, HBO pays him millions for his moronic cable chat show.

Prior to 1934, Americans took care of themselves and their families by being responsibly armed in public. That was a truly polite society.

I wouldn’t get too excited, he and everyone else on the left will be claiming the “right wing extremist” have driven the govt to being a police state.

Typical leftist tactic.

Get people to agree with you on the premise then provide the solution by advocating taking the rights of the people you disagree with as the solution.

Too many guns.

Need to get guns out of the peoples hands. People don’t need guns only the govt needs guns.

Too much hate speech.

Right wing hate radio and right wing hate news is driving people to hate. We need to control hate speech.

This idiot Maher has been cheering this all along, and now he realizes what is happening. He’s a useful fool for the regime.

Oh....so after how many "limited incidences" will we decide that it's wrong? By then it just might be too late to stop it. What will be your line in the sand? When they come to your house, order you out at gunpoint and kill your dog? What? I'm sorry...I view this was a violation of the 4th Amendment. What's to stop them from doing this the next time a murderer or bank robber is running through your neighborhood? After all....it will be in the name of public safety.

We are a police state, only in a police state could such a thing happened that we saw in Boston, not to mention the xrays and pat down’s at airports. Throw in the trucks that scan whole house’s while driving down the street.

We are past the point of no return.......

This idiot Maher has been cheering this all along, and now he realizes what is happening. He’s a useful fool for the regime.

Never forget that Ronald Reagan once cheered Socialism, and you might say he had been a "useful fool." The Apostle Paul was once Christianity's greatest persecutor, but became its greatest writer and discipler. Converts to Truth should always be welcome, not scorned and rejected.

As the French scholar Antonin G. Sertillanges wisely admonished in his 1934 book The Intellectual Life, "Train yourself to indifference about sources. Truth alone has a claim, and it has that claim wherever it appears."

I do believe that Maher is beginning to see the light

After watching Maher spew his leftist ideology for years, I'll need more than one or two sensible comments to believe that his lightbulb has truly flickered to life. I think what we're witnessing is merely a "lucid interval".
