There’s no such thing as a person of interest. If you believe the the person may have information, and you want to interview them, they are a witness.
But the instant you forms the idea that this person might be involved, (reasonable suspicion) that’s a “suspect”.
Not all suspects wind up charged after the investigation.
Person of interest has no legal definition. It’s a term for PIOs, politicians, and CSI watching housewives. It is instructive that this term began with Richard Jewell. They were searching for a politically correct way to say he was the target of the investigation without calling him a “suspect”.
Dubya has set us back 50 years in properly dealing with Islam with his “peaceful friendly religion” claptrap.
