“but better than nothing.”

Sorry to say but it is nothing. Laws only work with the
law abiding. The Obama administration hasn’t been exactly
law abiding and who’s going to do anything about it anyway?
The database already exists. They already know every legal
gun owner and potential owner already, through
background checks at purchase. That’s why they want a
background check in every gun transaction.

I live in Maine, and this law was proposed, and passed easily in both houses of the Maine legislative.

The law came about because The Bangor Daily News here in Maine wanted a list from every police department and sheriff’s department which contained the name, address, and date of birth of every person in Maine who has a conceal carry permit. Under the freedom of information act, and a Maine version of it, the police and sheriff’s department would have been required to give the information whether they wanted to or not.

The Bangor Daily News said they weren’t planning to publish the information, they just wanted to do “research.” Yeah, sure.

There was a huge uproar here a month or two ago about all of this, and a temporary law was passed and a permanent law could be crafted. Most of the democrats joined the GOP members of the Maine Senate and Maine House in passing this bill.
