I have posted most of these stories from the sources, but this is a nice write up and has a good map at the link.

>>Sunday, April 14

A Dayton resident told investigators he was doing work in the backyard of the house when two men approached him, demanded his belongings, then pulled out a gun.

From WDTN (NBC Dayton):

The victim, who has a permit to carry a concealed weapon, fired several rounds from his pistol before one of the suspects could pull his trigger.

The suspects then fled the scene, but officers brought in a K9 unit and found both men nearby in an alleyway.

One of the suspects suffered a gunshot wound to the back and was taken to Miami Valley Hospital.<<

Dayton residents consider it wise to be armed in their own backyard! With darn good reason too.

I am 65 and have never liked a confrontation.

But 2 times in my life I had to produce a weapon to defend myself.

First time was in College when a bunch of drunk cowboy friends of a new roommate came in my apartment. They threatened me, poured beer on me and threatened more. When they were distracted, I stepped into closet, retrieved my shotgun, and put shell in the barrel. The sound of the breech closing caused a noise that reminded me to a covey of quail. End of episode, except my new roommate stayed away for quite a while.

Many years later I was leaving home on a weekly business trip about 4:30 AM. Drove through a mining district and tried to pass a car which then tried to force me in the ditch. I pulled behind the car and it was slowing down, tried again and same thing happened. The next time I had a 9mm loaded and ready on the dash board. As I pulled even with the car they started to do the same thing, I rolled down the window and pointed the pistol at the driver. You would have thought they had a drag chute on the car. I went on and never looked back. (I had tried to use the local autopatch to dial the police and the autopatch was down and no one was on the local repeater.) It was a very good thing that I had the gun in the car, did most of the time then.

I know, you never produce one until you are prepared to use it. That does not mean that you will. If there is a way out of that, it should be taken.

This link opens a pdf study by the Cato Institute: Tough Targets--When Criminals Face Armed Resistance From Citizens

The estimates of defensive gun use range between the tens of thousands to as high as two million each year

Tough Targets

And I appreciate all the work you do posting these articles.

Looks like nobody needed assault weapons or 30 round mags so I guess 7 round mags are all we need! </ Sarc>

The first one of those stories is enigmatic. The perp was named Lucas Hassen.

“...was a 2006 graduate of Central Catholic High School and a 2010 graduate of the University of Toledo with a degree in finance. He attended the university on an academic scholarship, according to his father... He said his son was living in Point Place and worked for a landscaping company.”

I think the real answers will come with the pending toxicology report. “Toxicology results could take 8 to 12 weeks.”

the gov of conn was on fox and declared that they are STILL quietly discussing gun measures behind closed doors and that he feels that he can swing the votes his way because thsoe who voted no ‘really didn’t want to’ and he feels he can convince htem that ‘it’s the right thing to do’

Apparently there aren’t any republicans with guts enough to bering in survivors who defended themselves with multiple rounds, and there aren’t repubs with guts enough to state clearly that if cops in boston couldn’t take down just 2 armed men with more than TWO HUNDRED ROUNDS of amunition- then who the hell does cognress think they are tellign us citizens how many bullets we get to have for our own defense?

We o nthe right ARE goign to lose this battle- the left couldn’t win it by ILLEGALLY bringign it to a vote (The constitution is NOT up for a vote), so now they are goign to ram it htrough behind clsoed doors so that noone knows who voted yes or no- just lik htey did in NY- shovign hte measure through under the guise of ‘imminent need’ or whatever the hell sham excuse they sued there-

Ah, no. They would not have received wider coverage. Self-defense doesn’t fit the template. Don’t fool yourself or others.

I’m surprised we don’t see on Free Republic a weekly posting of statistics showing how many times a gun was used in self defense in this country, something we can slip into the Sig in our emails or otherwise disseminate to people in our addressbooks.

Heads up Ohio freepers.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The White House says President Barack Obama is delivering the commencement address at Ohio State University on May 5.

The university says it will be Obama’s fifth visit to the campus in little more than a year.

Last May, Obama kicked off his successful drive for re-election with a rally at the university.

He also won the political battleground state in the 2008 and 2012 elections.

Obama’s other commencement speeches this season are scheduled for all-male Morehouse College in Atlanta on May 19, and at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., on May 24.
