REST IN PEACE, FALLEN BROTHER!

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV)
"Arm yourselves, and be ye men of valour, and be in readiness for the conflict; For it is better for us to perish in battle than to look upon the outrage of our nation and our altar. As the Will of God is in Heaven, even so let it be." (1 Maccabees 3:5860)

Rest in Peace, fallen brother, rest in peace! We who remain hold you in high honor. Rest, fallen brother, in this sacred precinct; We who remain keep this place sacred. Rest, fallen brother, among these, your comrades; We who remain keep the watch. Rest, fallen brother, among these who answered the Nations call; We who remain press the fight forward in your name. Rest, fallen brother, lay down thy burden; We who remain have taken up the torch. Rest in Peace, fallen brother, rest in eternal peace!

There was a biblical quote I once saw on the photo of the medal actually being placed on him, something about “a devil over my shoulder”.
Anyone else got it?

Did your garden get some attention today? Is it all clean and ready to face the summer?
Clear and chilly today, with wind.

The more I read of our brave men and women dying in that god-forsaken country the madder I get. For what? Nothing. Those people will revert to the stone age the minute we leave there. Their deaths were for naught.

From mountainlion....
LOS ANGELES Alan Wood, a World War II veteran credited with providing the flag in the famous flag-raising on Iwo Jima, has died. He was 90.
Wood died April 18 of natural causes at his Sierra Madre home, his son Steven Wood said Saturday.
Wood was a 22-year-old Navy officer in charge of communications on a landing ship on Iwo Jima's shores Feb. 23, 1945 when a Marine asked him for the biggest flag that he could find.
After five days of fighting to capture the Japanese-held island, U.S. forces had managed to scale Mount Suribachi to hoist an American flag.
Wood happened to have a 37-square-foot flag he had found months before in a Pearl Harbor Navy depot.
Five Marines and a Navy Corpsman later raised that flag in a stirring moment captured by Associated Press photographer Joe Rosenthal.
Steven Wood says his father was always humbled by his small role in the historic moment.

The garden got some attention this afternoon - John Man went out and pulled weeds, etc. I was at Sam's Club buying provisions, including three gigantic Rib-Eyes, which John Man grilled to perfection.
Warm today - high around 70 and overcast - expecting rain tonight.

Overcoming Bad News
April 29, 2013
There are many who say, Who will show us any good? (Ps. 4:6). These words of David seem to describe the pessimistic outlook we so easily develop in our world today. The front page of newspapers and the top stories on the Internet or television seem to focus on crime, accidents, politics, the economy, and prominent people behaving badly. Our conversations at work and home begin to dwell on difficulties, and its enough to discourage anyone. Where can we turn for better news?
In the midst of his troubles, David turned to the Lord, who relieved his distress (v.1) and heard his prayer (v.3). Instead of hoping for temporary good from altered circumstances, he found unceasing encouragement in God. Lord, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us (v.6). The result was a gladness of heart that surpassed any earthly prosperity or success (v.7).
Throughout Davids life, before and after he became king of Israel, he was never without opposition. But at the end of the day, he could say, I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; for You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety (v.8).
Pondering the truths in Psalm 4 about Gods care for us is a good way to begin and end every day.
In His care confiding
I will sweetly sleep,
For the Lord my Savior
Will in safety keep. Psalter
God is a safe dwelling place in lifes storms.
Read: Psalm 4
