Prince William and Kate Middleton will leave their home in Anglesey this Summer, in preparation for the arrival of their first child.

The Sunday Times reported that the Duke of Cambridge is to complete his three and a half year tour of duty as a Sea King helicopter pilot at the Anglesey RAF base.

It was reported that he told his commanding officer at RAF Valley search and rescue force it is time for him to 'move on'.

It appears he is a Squadron Leader (OF-3) according to the picture at the link.

Stuff like this makes him look like an aimless dilettante and reminds everyone, in the middle of a prolonged, horrible recession, that he doesn’t have to work and can basically do whatever he wants and not have to worry about anything. My opinion of him has really dropped over the past couple years (and my opinion of his brother has improved).

It’s a shame he is not staying in the military longer.

3.5 years is not enough to see what happens at the higher levels.

Headline is misleading.

Is he quitting or has he served his complete tour of duty & not re-enlisting.

When it comes to promotion it’s not what you know it’s who you know.

As heir to the thrown he'll rotate through the services. He was commissioned into the Army, then went through pilot training in the RAF, I'd imagine a spell in the Navy is next.

His career path is leading to one day being king. And his soon-to-be offspring is also set to reign. His responsibilities as a father are as important as his exposure to the military life.

Well, yeah. He’s royalty. He never did have to work. But he did. Life ain’t fair. He hit the life lottery. Not everybody can. He has had none of the scandal his little brother has. I can’t fault William for wanting to begin a family.

I suspect that he’s been told that he needs to get ready to ascend to the throne.

I have the exact opposite opinion.
He does have bigger fish to fry now, both personally and for the good of his nation.

I always thought that he was a dilettante, and his brother is the "good" one.

Mentioned this to Mrs WBill and her comment was that "His job is to be a dilettante. He's going to be King of England."

Fair Point, sez me.

I like his wife, you can tell a lot about a man from his wife. And, I'd not like to live in a fishbowl, like either of them. Hard to live a decent life with 1000 photographers tracking your every move, waiting for you to look even slightly foolish.

Some would say this next king could be anti Christlike.... would make me glad I didn’t watch his wedding or keep up with his comings and goings... he does have a faithful following already
we may not avoid his coming or going if he is king and he is running the european union from his throne in a collapse...
Just a another keep a sharp eye out...

That’s what I was thinking. If QEII has not handed the reins to Chucky at this point, I seriously doubt that she plans to do so.

Part of the problem is the government in the UK has decided to privatize the search and rescue operations of the RAF to save money - he apparently doesn’t like that idea.

I love Monday through Friday. Being retired, I can loaf around all week. Then on Saturday and Sunday I can rest up.

You mean to imply that the monarchy will skip a generation? On what basis?
