Cruz Breaks With Senate Tradition While Criticizing Colleagues
New York Times ^ | April 29, 2013 | JONATHAN WEISMAN

Posted on 04/29/2013 10:07:42 AM PDT by reaganaut1

In his short time at the Capitol, Senator Ted Cruz, a freshman Republican from Texas, has shown little regard for long-standing rules of decorum. But on Friday, he publicly discussed the closed-door dealings of the Senate Republican Conference — and trashed his colleagues in the process.

Stopping by a Texas meeting of the Tea Party-aligned group FreedomWorks, Mr. Cruz called many of his colleagues “squishes,” forced to stand on conservative principles by the uncompromising stands of a triumphant trio of Republican “constitutionalists”: himself and Senators Mike Lee of Utah and Rand Paul of Kentucky.

At stake was the gun control legislation that the Senate dragged down this month. At issue for Mr. Cruz might be his exposure of a series of closed-door luncheons in which fellow Republicans took the three to task for announcing in advance that they would filibuster every single vote on the gun measure, including the simple motion to take up and begin debating the bill. Such meetings are expressly off the record.

“We’ve had probably five or six lunches with a bunch of Republican senators standing up and looking at Rand and Mike and me and yelling at the top of their lungs — I mean really upset,” he told the group to laughter and titters, according to a video posted by a Tea Party blogger and promoted by the liberal group People for the American Way. “And they said: ‘Why did you do this? As a result of what you did, when I go home, my constituents are yelling at me that I’ve got to stand on principle.’ I’m not making that up. I don’t even bother to argue with them. I just sort of let them yell.”

The NYT hates Cruz more than the Tsarnaevs.

Cruz won’t be intimidated so easily. What an outstanding Senator he has been so far.

So far Cruz remembers he works for the people of Texas not the R party or fellow senators. I hope he keeps it up, but watch them remove him from good committees.

Sorry, but Rand has forfeited that designation over his unforgivable support for amnesty to wanton lawbreakers.

They can't bully him, can't intimidate him and he won't sit down and roll over like a puppy.

The libs and many rinos hate his guts and are digging in his past trying to find the skeleton in his closet so he will shut up.

Ain't gonna happen, Cruz has 16 pound bowling balls.

He has become a shining star for Texas! Fight ON! Those traditions only worked when men of Honor and principle held seats in the Senate—that was a long time ago. Rand, Lee and Cruz will fight to keep us free—and if they fail....they will lead the movement to restore the nation.

Hmmm. Well since Senator Cruz said GOP senators yelled at him "at the top of their lungs" ... it would seem that there isn't much of any such 'Senate Tradition'.

“And they said: ‘Why did you do this? As a result of what you did, when I go home, my constituents are yelling at me that I’ve got to stand on principle.’

Getting yelled at because they will be held accountable and have to 'stand on principle' ... doesn't that just about say it all about the state of government these days? A major house-cleaning is needed. At least the constituents are 'yelling' .... about time.

One such is fantastic. Three, a great start.
What is it about the Constitution that absolutely befuddles RINOS?

Blackmail?
Mass amnesia?
Disdain for the Tea Party philosophy?
Ambition?
Political correctness?

They better find the antidote fast, because the Obamacare trainwreck is not going away, and things WILL get worse.

Rand seems to be having second thoughts on his recent position regarding comprehensive immigration [a.k.a., Amnesty]

Rand Paul April 25, 2013
"This [comprehensive immigration reform] isn't passing unless it gets through a conservative House. Unless they ram it through with all Democrats in the House and a few Republicans, it's not going to pass," Paul said. "I think that's an important part of this that the Gang of Eight is going to have to figure out."

"I've told them this repeatedly in private and in public, 'If you have a new pathway, you're making it hard for any conservatives to get on board with this,'" he added

Cruz is also NOT INTERESTED in fawning approval stories printed by the New York Times and the rest of the media. We had to deal with forty-seven years of Ted Kennedy but they can’t stand only three months of Ted Cruz.

As far as I can tell the "rules of decorum" mean "roll over every time the liberals demand".

I have seen very little "decorum" from Grimy Harry for example.

His position has been repeatedly misstated by the likes of the NYT and LAT. Liberals trying to spin his positions into fitting their agenda. His out line of a plan can be found at his website and it has not changed one iota. The only amnesty in it is that illegals here that qualify for a work visa to not have to return to their home country to apply for a green card.

So sad that you’re right about the Times - our “respected” paper.

Cruz “trashing” senators sounds ok though;)
