Russian passenger plane escapes missile fire over Syria
(??First use of MANPADs????)
An aircraft belonging to the Russian charter air carrier Nordwind Airlines
with 200 passengers aboard was flying over Syria from the Egyptian Sinai town
of Sharm el-Sheikh Monday when it was targeted by two ground-to-air missiles.
The pilots managed to maneuver the plane to safety without damage or casualties.
It landed at its destination at the town of Kazan in the Russian republic of Tatarstan.
An informed source in Moscow said the missiles launched by an unidentified
force exploded in the air very close to the aircraft. They were obviously intentionally
targeted but it was not clear whether the attackers knew the plane was Russian.
I call BS
Unless Russian passenger aircraft routinely carry missile detection systems.
fun, wow...
I am guessing Muslim Brotherhood trying to blame the Syrian government
I am highly skeptical of anything coming out of DEBKA, but it’s my understanding that missle targetting detection equipment is more or less standard equipment now on civilian jumbo jets.

Pretty safe bet = yes they do...
But if the Syrians can't lock & hit this russki pax transport...
I doubt any modern carrier-based assets will have any trouble gaining air dominance--real quick and in a hurry.
The soviets used to find the Syrians - backstabbing old friends? ...
That's some pretty high tech missile defense system the Russkies got!
So - a flash on the ground is now a MANPADS missile attack.
Sheesh.
