CHATSWORTH, GA (WRCB) - Hundreds of people in one north Georgia town are not allowed to drink their water.
The water treatment plant in Ramhurst is temporarily shut down after someone broke in and changed the chemical settings.
It's affecting about 400 Murray County residents. Local, state and federal officials are investigating who's to blame. Officials with Chatsworth Water Works say the source of the problems is at the Carter's Lake Water Treatment Plant in the Ramhurst area.
Saturday workers noticed someone had changed some chemical settings. First, officials issued a "boil advisory" but the Environmental Protection Department bumped it up to a total "do not drink" order and shut down the plant until they're certain it's safe for the public to consume. It could be a few more days.

Now they are going everywhere to find bottled water. One never knows when water will stop coming out of the faucet or the water is polluted (or poisoned).
Remember, don't depend on people and machines to give you necessary life sustaining substances because people and machines may stop working and when they do it's too late to store them.
In this case, someone intentionally messed up the water supply. Doesn't matter why good water stopped, the fact is, it did. Store water for when the faucet is dry or water polluted (or poisoned).
I used to live in Columbus, GA. The tap water looked like pee with bugs in it.

I’d call a moving van and be out of there.
Four in the family here also (two pre-teen girls).
Winter water bill is $19-21, so I don’t really have much to complain about.
Summer requires city water on the small lawn — so add about $15/month.
The residential sewer bill is a separate $25/month, so we aren’t far apart in the winter.
Maybe they will take this opportunity to blame the anti-fluoride people, you know those people who eat apple pie, play baseball, sing Yankee doodle dandy and have last names of Mohammed...
Mind you, I was in the middle of washing dishes and cooking supper for me and some neighbors.
Water goes off for lots of reasons. I keep a bunch on hand just in case.

You know I’ve got to say, you guys promoting the FReepathon are very clever with the pictures you post on every thread. It’s amazing how many times the picture you post nearly matches the topic of the thread!
At least it seems that way to me. Maybe I’m missing something or maybe I’ve just been lucky on all the threads I’ve opened.
To become fully effective, some external plumbing must be added to let the water sit in the bucket to cover the sand and keep it wet. Then, it must be used daily for at least two weeks or so.

One thing to note is that at first, this only filters out some contaminates. You will still have to treat the water that is filtered for pathogens for the first couple of weeks of use. However, after it has been used for a while, a layer of organic material builds up in the top inch or so of the sand, and it will eventually get to the point that it will filter pathogens out of the water.
But it has to be used daily for a couple of weeks to get to this point.
Tibia reminds me I’m overdue to dump and refill my two polypropylene barrels of emergency water. I should squeeze that in tomorrow, I’ll be at the house.

Cleaning out the bedrooms the other day, and my daughter asked why there are four large bottles of water and some protein bars under her bed. I reminded her that they are in case of an emergency - and under your bed in case the emergency is an earthquake and you are trapped in your room or bed. It just might give you those extra days that it might take a rescuer to find you.
That said, I guess it doesn’t do much good to have water under all the beds (and elsewhere) if the kids aren’t reminded that they are there and what to do.
Give Tibia a break, you probably needed to change the water anyway.
I’m currently using my tibias to support myself on a barstool while I drink a really excellent chocolate stout! They are fully occupied at the moment.

Thank goodness I have some water stored.
I have water stored, but we are on a well. Hubby said it’s easy to hook up the pump to one of our generators if we ever need to.
So far we always get by fine without even needing to use the water we bought and stored. I keep a couple 1 liter soda bottles under each sink for wash water. And drain the lines for drinking water.
Stick a do not flush on the toilet. That can be flushed by bringing in a bucket of water from the water collected off the roof. Then there’s always the hot water heater and holding tank, which we have never ever had to use even when we went several days without electric.
I always have some of those packages of body wash towels/wipes for use as needed which helps cut down on water use too.
I recall that after 911 someone uncovered plans for an attack on some random small town in the south, just for the purpose of instilling fear with the thinking that nobody is safe.
Whenever I hear about a lot of random seeming incidents, or *accidents*, I always wonder.
