Israeli Defense Forces held surprise military drills today near the Lebanon border with over 2,000 soldiers.
Israeli Jets reportedly entered Syrian airspace and bombed a chemical weapons compound near Damascus this morning. The UPI reported:
The Free Syrian Army says Israeli air force jets flew over President Bashar Assads palace and bombed a chemical weapons site near Damascus, Maariv reported.
The report said Israeli jets entered Syrian airspace close to 6 a.m Saturday and flew over Assads palace in Damascus and other security facilities before striking a chemical weapons compound near the city.
The Hebrew language daily said a Syrian army air defense battery positioned in the city fired at the Israeli jets, but the aircraft left Syrian airspace unscathed. FSA rebels posted a video showing smoke rising from the headquarters for chemical weapons.
There were no reports of the extent of damage or casualties.
Neither Damascus nor Jerusalem responded to the report.

It's NOT our effin job!
Wowzers this is really heating up.
Took the words from my mouth!
This was reported earlier, both the build up exercise
and the over flight and bombing.
It was like deja vu all over again! WHEW I am glad I am not the only one who experienced it!
Im all for bombing Syria, but surely one cant call that a drill.
Gee, all those nasty chemical weapons getting scattered around Syria...
I remember reading about it yesterday, probably on FR, because I don’t really check other sites much.
And take credit in the next sentence.
” Works for me.”
Me too. Plus a large drink to go!
98 degrees here....
Maybe a “bunker-buster.” Whatever the Israeli Air Force does is fine with me. As “Sultan Knish” has pointed out, there’s no good side in Syria ... it’s Boy Assad or worse.
And notice I overlooked you calling me ‘Shirley’. :)
Don’t mess with Te
Yep, it was a UPI story on Sunday, here’s the thread.
I strongly suspect he gave top Israelis a wink and a nod during his recent visit. If he says anything bad about the Israeli attack it will probably be for show, not for real.
I called Hojczyk “Shirley,” and that’s nicer than one might hope for, given the name with all the high-Scrabble-points consonants in it!
In all seriousness, the radar Putin sold Syria can’t detect missiles going after a Russian commercial airliner, and can’t detect IAF dropping bombs... I’d be calling the returns phone number on the packing lists.
