Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel recently warned that sequestration would cause suspension of important activities, curtailed training, and could result in furloughs of civilian personnel but the spending cuts havent killed the green fuels program, as the Pentagon has continued purchasing renewable fuel at $59 per gallon.
In March, Gevo entered into a contract with the Defense Logistics Agency to supply the U.S. Army with 3,650 gallons of renewable jet fuel to be delivered by the second quarter of 2013, Gevo announced this week in its first quarter financial report. This initial order may be increased by 12,500 gallons. All shipments will be at a fixed price of $59 per gallon during the initial testing phase. These shipments are in addition to the renewable jet fuel supplied to the U.S. Air Force (USAF) and the U.S. Navy (USN).
National Journal pointed out in 2011 that the military pays between $3 and $4 per gallon for conventional fuel.
well ,when the fuel is made by a FRIEND of the BOSS ,what can you do
Pray for America to Wake Up
Everything this central socialist government does is designed to squander money they don't have on things their military and the rest of America doesn't need.
Paying 10+ times more than regular jet fuel for some crap made out of seaweed or soybeans is not “green”, it’s stupid and crazy. Worse, these same big shot officers decide on how our young sons & daughters in the military must fight.
I am speechless.
but this is a political payback for contributions to the election of Obama, of course this isn’t affected by the sequester.
So, why should they care. It's not their money. It's yours they are spending.
For a hoax.
12000 gallons is like one third of one days use on an Aircraft Carrier and when you total the cost of operating a carrier it's a drop in the bucket
It's not done to be green, but to have options during war. The cost of fuel is often a fraction of the cost of fuel delivery. From http://www.nationaldefensemagazine.org:
The Defense Logistics Agency buys military fuel for $2.82 per gallon. But that same fuel can cost $13 if its shipped by ground to a forward-deployed location, during peacetime. If its transferred in-flight from a refueling airplane to another aircraft, the gas is $42. If troops are in hostile areas, prices can range from $100 to $600 for in theater delivery.
When it costs government only 5 cents to print a $100 Federal Reserve Note, and when you can borrow the 5 cents at 1% interest, it doesn’t matter what the fuel costs. It is a bargain by any liberal metric.
This article doesn’t make much sense. They devine the $59/gallon fuel as Jet fuel, but then later compare that to a cost of $3-4/gallon of a general fuel. How much does jet fuel usually cost?
On another note, if they truly are buying a “renewable” fuel, then they should just order 1 gallon per jet!
The Navy pays 34 bucks a gallon for green fuel for ships now and they buy a lot. This is YOUR tax money at work.
I paid $4.35 last Friday at a local airport for self service. The pump price was a dollar more.
jet fuel delivered to afghanistan costs about 400 dollars a gallon.
they are hoping at some point to get production down to where they can create fuel at the place where its required.
the overall theme of the military in the next ten years will be.
KILL THE SUPPLY LINE.
Its ok, because the fuel will last much longer now that we have no jets to burn it in. Just think of the long term savings and... hey, look! A butterfly!
Question: “What environmental and ‘Green’ programs have had reduced funding at DoD due to the sequester?”
Mr. Hagel? Could you repeat that answer, please?
-——> Massive amounts of DoD money goes into things only very tangentially related to actual defense. Who are the reporters looking into this???
