The UK Independence Party has overtaken the Liberal Democrats as the third party of British politics, Nigel Farage declared today as he made major gains in local elections.

He said his party was on course to make big gains, despite being 'abused' by the political establishment, including claims they were 'clowns' and racists'

First they ignore, then they ridicule, then they lose.

Nigel is being ridiculed and is moving into the third phase...

Can you read the tea leaves, GOP? The establishment Tories will be out of office because of their compromises with Labor. It’s the Brit version of a TEA Party uprising, with out-of-control immigration being the impetus.

More akin to when the Reform Party of Canada was formed in dissent to the governing Progressive Conservative Party because of the PC establishment continuing to drift further to the left on numerous policy issues. In the 1993 federal election the PC Party was reduced to 2 seats while the Reform Party took 52. In 1997 it was 20 PC and 60 Reform. In 2000 it was 12 PC and 66 Reform (renamed the Canadian Alliance). The PC party eventually was absorbed into the Canadian Alliance to form a new Conservative Party which has been in power since 2006.

The bottom line is that the conservative/Tea Party wing of the Republican Party is the dominant force within that party. A third party could relegate the Republicans into 3rd party status and keep them there. The cost will be a succession of Democrat victories until the civil war comes to a conclusion, but it may be the only way to effect real change in Washington in the long term.

Hip Hip for the UKIP......

Results will continue to be counted throughout the day until more than 2,500 council seats are elected on 34 councils.

People still think this can be won without sacrifice. They are determined that magic bullets will save them and someone will ride in on a white horse.

Here or anywhere, the good guys can’t win as long as their own ‘party’ opposes them. There is no victory from within possible when the GOP is accelerating leftward. The solution is and always was, remove the GOP. That is going to hurt in the short term. But this isn’t a short term war.

I have often wondered why the TEA party does not get a few people from a war college out in public to explain this to the ‘troops’.

I think the Brits are just tired of their Quisling elite leaders bringing in millions of "new Englishmen" like these to destroy their culture and country.

The Tea Party would do well to do a very thorough analysis of the Canadian experience.

The UKIP has an easier road than either the Canadian Alliance or the Tea Party because the immigration problem, which is the point of the spear for them, is so major, so obvious, that it is simply impossible to obfuscate it, but there would be much to learn from them as well.

Another huge thing the UKIP has going for them of course is one of the most articulate and likeable national politicians we’ve seen in a very long time.

It sure would not hurt.

When I look at our fiasco, I imagine it in historical terms. We have the historical equivalent of Nevile (SP?) Chamberlin in charge of the GOP telling the base that we can have peace in our time through moderation and accepting the Dems.

How well did that work out for Nev? And the parallels are striking.

Sounds like the UK media is taking cues of our media's treatment of the Tea Party and apply it to the UKIP.

Nigel now lets see you be the 31 party in the UK..

Then they laugh at you.
Then they fight you.
Then you win.

Time for Fresh Air in England—a new Party to replace the old crusty—Tories who have grown fat and lazy working with the Leftists. A new England must be formed to retake the Septered Isle. Way to go! Keep up the good work and show the powers that be that Democracy isn’t dead! There will always be an England! For England and St. George!

BBC, 23 minutes ago:
UKIP has won over 140 seats so far and is averaging 25% of the vote in the wards where it is standing.

The Conservatives have lost control of 10 councils, but retained 17, while Labour has gained two councils and boosted its councillors by over 200.

David Cameron said he would "work really hard to win back" supporters who had decided to vote for UKIP.

Contests are taking place in 27 English county councils and seven unitary authorities, as well as in Anglesey. About 2,300 council seats are up for grabs in England, in a major mid-term test for the coalition government.

The strong showing in this year's local elections means that UKIP will have strong credibility going into the 2014 European Parliament election next May. UKIP has 13 out of UK's 73 seats in the EU parliament (with the Conservative party having the most seats at 26). A strong showing in 2014 will set the stage for the 2015 national elections.

Very interesting.

US politics would be far more interesting if had more than one political party. As it is, US politics is just depressing.
