Norfolk, Va. - In World War II, there were 30 Navy ships for every admiral. Now, the Navy has more admirals than ships.
Thats a point not lost on Virginia Democratic Senator Mark Warner.
I want to see the Pentagon cut back on some of this brass creep both in terms of numbers and some of these perks, Warner said.
Not long ago, the Navy forced out 3,000 mid-career sailors. Military budget cuts have scrapped air shows, delayed deployments, and threatened civilian contractors with two-week furloughs. Craig Quigley, a retired rear admiral who heads the Hampton Roads Military and Federal Facilities Alliance, says the cuts while not as bad as first feared will ripple past the local bases.

But we still don’t have enough one-legged black lesbian admirals. Diversity matters. Chuck Hagel is working on it. :)
And this is just MY NAVY, how many DOUCHBALL US ARMY, US AIR FORCE Generals are there as compared w/ 1945?

At the close of World War II, the Navy had about 130 ships for every admiral in the flag ranks.
Today, that ratio is closer to one ship for every admiral...
...Since 2003, the Navy’s active-duty end strength has dropped from about 380,000 to about 330,000, a reduction of about 15 percent. And yet, the size of the admiralty has grown from 271 in 2001 to 275 last year...
And all those flag officers create busy work for those of us in the shore establishment.
A good house cleaning of middle and upper management is in order. In the uniformed and SES civilian areas.
Pass the savings along to the soldiers and sailors and marines with boots on the ground.
Rilea is just up the road from Ft. Clatsop, where Lewis and Clark spent the winter of 1805-6. I availed myself of the opportunity to visit the fort and it dawned on me that the leader of this expedition was the same rank I held at the time; he gathered up his men and led them into the great unknown.
While I was inspired at how rugged these men had been, it also occurred to me that in this day and age, such an endeavor as the Voyage of Discovery would not take place without the micromanagement of GS-15s, a few general grade officers, and no shortage of full birds. The leader of the expedition would be trusted to nothing less than a LTC.
A lot of new “Rear” Admirals coming into the pipeline I’ll bet.
You can be sure there are the same over-abundance of flag officers (generals and admirals) in the other services too.
Our politicians in both parties do not cut high ranking positions...whether military or civil service
why else the onslaught against heterosexuals?..against Christianity?...against anything remotely tied to good old American values?.....
like my boss, who bends over backwards to please the upper management, no matter how ridiculous the request...
a good leader is one that defends their men...
