Oklahoma Gov. Fallin Signs Bill to Protect Patients From Treatment Denial

Governor Mary Falin has signed a bill pro-life advocates supported that would protect patients from being denied lifesaving medical treatment.

Falin signed HB 1403, the Nondiscrimination in Treatment Act, which protects a patient from being denied life-preserving treatment (when the patient wants the treatment and can pay for it, and the treatment could preserve the patient’s life) because of an arbitrary judgment of a medical provider that the patient’s life is not worth living.

Tony Lauinger, the head of Oklahomans for Life, told LifeNews he is pleased she signed the measure.

“Governor Mary Fallin has signed into law the Nondiscrimination in Treatment Act, HB 1403, which will protect vulnerable patients who are at risk of being denied life-preserving care against their will,” he said.

Lauinger said no patients should be denied treatment “because of a medical provider’s arbitrary opinion that the patient has a poor “quality of life” or that the patient’s life is not worth living.”

“Governor Fallin is to be strongly commended for her unwavering support for this pro-life bill that will protect individuals who are elderly, seriously ill, or who have a disability from being discriminatorily denied life-preserving medical treatment that they have requested, that could preserve their life, and that the health-care provider makes available to other patients,” he said.

“Opponents of the pro-life bill failed in their last-ditch attempt to stir up opposition and to try to persuade Governor Fallin to veto the pro-life bill,” he added.

Governor Fallin could be thanked by phoning (405) 521-2342.

Governor Mary Falin has signed a bill pro-life advocates supported that would protect patients from being denied lifesaving medical treatment...Let's hope it goes nationwide - friend was being considered for a heart valve replacement but eventually found out his disability wasn't bad enough yet to need one - but he was told by his doctor that starting next year anyone over 75 will need to get "approval" from "somewhere" for such operations - from where wasn't clear - Palin's Death Panels anyone????.....
