Rove: The GOP Sets Its Sights on the Senate in 2014 (original)
Wall Street Journal ^ | May 1, 2013 | Karl Rove

Posted on 05/03/2013 2:21:47 PM PDT by Innovative

Of the 35 Senate seats up for grabs next year, 21 are held by Democrats, 14 by Republicans. Six Democratic seats are in states (W. Va., Ark., S.D., Louisiana, Alaska and Mont.) that Mitt Romney won by at least 10%. Only one Republican seat is in a state (Maine) that President Obama won by more than 10%.

To take control of the Senate, however, Republicans must win a net of six seats. They won that many seats in 2010 but lost two seats in 2012, leaving the Democrats with a 53-45 margin today (independents Bernie Sanders in Vermont and Angus King of Maine caucus with the Democrats.)

The quality of GOP campaigns will matter as well. Republicans must go toe-to-toe with Democrats on ObamaCare, spending, deficits, the president's social agenda and, where appropriate, their opponent's character. But even done effectively, this won't be enough.

The GOP has an outside chance of a Senate majority. To win, Republicans must also offer a compelling and substantive agenda for America's economy, jobs, health care and fiscal situation that attract discerning independents (and the occasional disgruntled Democrats) on whom victory will depend. 2014 represents a great opportunity for Republicans: they'd better not let it get away.

That’s what we’re dealing with in MA. Gabe Gomez, from my hometown, is the Republican candidate to face Ed Markey. He calls himself a “new kind of Republican”. What that means is liberal. Why aren’t Democrats “new kind of Democrats” and more Conservative? They never stray off the liberal reservation.

And Tokyo Rove will be there to ensure we lose in any race HE doesn’t get HIS way.

"Moderates" are lying, manipulative, bottom feeding scum who will happily hand a race to democrats just to say "we told you so". If they want to moderate someone so bad, they should moderate the party that actually needs it.

You forgot about liberals like Rove who are out to destroy the conservative movement in America, and attacks the Tea Party all the time.

2012 was supposed to be a cake walk for some of the Seats. Instead the Pubblies lost 2.

I hope the GOP has a better plan than they did in 2012.

Hmm. Let's see. Karl Rove is the poster child for the elitist Republican establishment, most of who are RINOs and Progressives. And these geniuses gave us Dole, McCain, Romney and every other milquetoast candidate ever dreamed up. So if he has his sights set on the Senate, you can bet the DemocRat Progressives in the Senate will still be in the majority but under the (R) emblem.

Karl, you are a reg’lar rocket scientist.

Rove absolutely torpedoed a number of Republicans he didn't like ... most notably in Delaware. He'll do it again.

He is in my estimation however, a wonderfully instructive case history. No one has ever gotten to spend more to achieve less in the entire history of American Marketing: Budgets of BILLIONS and paltry results. The real genius lies in his getting clients to continually repeat the process.

Who can forget his classic mismanagement of the 1st GW Campaign, single-handedly turning a slam-dunk landslide into a nail-biter; a cliff-hanger that had to be settled in court, at a cost of near $1 Billion? Quite amazing. But let's not forget that GW hired him only after he had totally f88ked up key parts of his Dad's campaign in '92.

Hannity, whose brain is apparently just a life-support system for his hair-do, calls Rove "The Architect." It's a painful reminder that even the Titanic had an architect.

What is with Hannity’s fascination with Dick Morris and Frank Luntz?

Barforama!

Hannity The Hair-Do, whose boyish fake earnestness could piss off a nun, has never been able to wrap his 8th-grade mind around the Constitutional Legitimacy question, or the much simpler Cold Case Forgery Story. Not that I would expect an opinion, but the least he could do is mention the topics as newsworthy. Hair-Do, does the name Sheriff Joe mean anything to you?

He's in good company with the other talk show people on that score, though. A political movement like "Conservatism" is in real trouble when it's public spokesmen seem to be for the most part former rock'n'roll disc jockeys, many of whom have had even less formal education than Hair-Do. They are simply not really good political philosopher material. Hair-do, in his endless quest of seeking the approval of adults, is a friend of Mark Levin the Lawyer, and even he has nothing to say about Constitutional Legitimacy, despite his learned tome on the Constitution, Guess his copy lacks Article II.

Right Wing Talk Radio? Negative Bullshiite which is HURTING the cause of Conservatism and is so focused on what an SOB The Mombasa MF is, they never get around to Program, Plan, and Leadership. In this they help TMF.

Wake up FReepers. Four million of their devoted listeners couldn't even make it to the polls. Probably too busy buying Gold Bars, SleepNumba Beds, ID Protection Programs, Freeze-Dried Apocalypse Rations, and Computer Back Ups, the selling of which is the REAL job of these ani.
