Actually the article states that one officer had multiple shrapnel injuries to multiple parts of his body and the other officer lost her left index finger.
Yes. I missed the finger part. So it appears one bullet actually struck one of the officers.

BTW: Middlefield has a sizable Amish community that still use horse and buggies, the possible reason for the odd traffic light/sign pattern.
That’s pretty funny. We have a lot of them around here too. I’ve been on the parkway on my way to work and there is often a buggy riding on the shoulder, but sometimes they are actually in the outside lane.
