Terrifying dash-cam footage captures the moment a crazed motorist opened fire with an AK-47 rifle at police officers who had just pulled him over for a minor traffic violation in Middlefield, Ohio.

James Gilkerson, 42, exited his parked car and then fired 37 shots at the officers and their patrol car, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported. Officers Erin Thomas and Brandon Savage returned fire, killing Gilkerson.

Maybe he was foolishly in pursuit of Dorner.

While not useful in this situation, they don’t seem able to hold it in.

The female scream is just about the most effective alarm there is though, when a woman screams in fear, the world for 100s of yards in all directions comes to a halt, and men start flowing toward it.

There’s another thing that might come into play here, and I might be wrong of course. It’s one thing to fire at a range, where a person has hearing protection. It’s another to hear live gunfire that’s LOUD AND CLOSE. You know what? I think the loud noise of the guns was scaring her even if some of it was coming from her partner, and she just wanted it to STOP. He did the right thing by continuing firing.

Well I guess the pre-employment process should include being shot at by an AK-47 and measure the panic factor. However, I don’t think we would get many applicants.

I do agree there. It is a sound like no other, and heads turn.

The panic and fear I felt when I ran out of beer in my younger days still has some memorable moments.

It is good to shut up some of those old biddies that can't say a positive thing about anything.

But that's just the bitter son-in-law in me speaking. 3 ex mother-in-laws. You would have thought I would have gotten 1 good one at least.

In a real emergency I’m like that. Things slow down and I can focus. Not that I always make the right choices mind you when shtf.

Actually it’s the little daily annoyances that can make me lose my sh!t and lose focus.

It's the meds everyone is taking. We have stress and worry so we take pills to get happy - but, its the stress and worry that keeps us from doing the crazy things we are thinking. The pills remove our governor.

See the importance of training and accuracy in contrast with the importance of type of weapon?

“She’d had a part of an index finger shot off in the first exchange of fire.”

Yeah, makes it hard to pull the trigger.

If you listened to the video, she told her partner to cover while she called backup. And she lost a finger in the exchange, Jerk, so she might not have been able to handle her firearm effectively.

“they guy was still up and still had the gun in his hand. no reason to stop firing.”

Once on his knees, the perp kept looking back and forth between his gun and the cops. Looks to me like he was trying to clear a jam or change mags. Which is why the cop kept shooting him until he stopped doing that.

I was required to qualify with my off hand as well as my primary hand.

If you can't do in the field what you were trained to do back at the schoolhouse, perhaps you should stay on the porch.
