He's an LEO.

A different set of standards applies to people who are above the law.

I agree, Off with his job!

These dogs are cops first and dogs second. If the officer is so Fn stupid to forget his partner, he has no ability nor business to be serving the public’s protection.

At the very least charge him for destroying county property ..... He was off duty, didn’t protect what was issued to him etc .... A good drug or bomb dog will set one back a pretty penny in Perry County.

Then fire the dumbass...

I talked to a PCSO K9 SGT just a month or so ago about this happening. Here, the K9 trucks are equipped with a system that after a predetermined time limit, a fan comes on, the rear window roll down and the horn starts blowing. He claims the county spends about $10,000 (Ten Grand) to outfit each vehicle.
As he says, not only is the dog really more than his partner, they are very expensive.
Too expensive for some Barney Fife to just leave locked in a hot car to die.

I say the deputy should not only be fired, but charged with animal cruelty.

In most states, a police dog is considered a full-fledged police officer. The felony for killing a police dog is far more serious that the charges for typical animal cruelty in almost all locations.

Yet when a drunk police officer leaves his K9 in a hot car to die miserably, the dog's death is just regarded as lost equipment.

Equal protection under the law, my ass.

Do they take the dogs home at night, or kennel them at the police dept.?

If the latter, it’s easier to understand, but no less unforgivable. I wouldn’t want to see him fired, but I’d never let him work the canine unit again. Actions have consequences. You have to take responsibility. Unless you’re Hillary. She doesn’t know the meaning of the word (hey, b***h, Tojo took responsibility!).

If the former, how the heck do you overlook the dog not getting out of the car with you, not going inside with you, not spending the evening with you, not getting fed and/or watered by you? As a dog owner myself, those are almost hard-wired habits for me. Hard to see how anyone could forget.

LEO in this area of Mississippi have fried two in the past and with the help of a veterinarian’s vague diagnosis avoided any repercussions or fault.

This will prey on my mind now. How sickening. I can’t imagine doing that to any creature, but I love dogs and only pray to God to make this poor dog happy and loved and cared for now, all the things his human caretaker didn’t bother with. I’m going to give my 5 dogs extra hugs today and plenty of ice in their water.
