UKIP will cause political earthquake in European elections, says Nigel Farage
Guardian UK ^ | Sunday, May 5, 2013 | Nicholas Watt

Amid growing calls from Tory MPs for David Cameron to respond to the Ukip threat by bringing forward legislation on an EU referendum, Farage warned that his party would not go away even if No 10 "starts singing the same song".

William Hague, who famously suffered a major defeat in the 2001 election after tacking to the right, called for a cautious response to Ukip as he warned of the dangers of "quick fixes".

Philip Hammond, the defence secretary, said many Ukip voters were "frustrated Conservatives".

As the Tories work out their response to Ukip, which won nearly a quarter of the vote in wards it contested in the local elections, Farage said he would not be standing in any byelection over the next year as he focuses on the European parliamentary elections.

The Ukip leader told The Andrew Marr Show on BBC1: "Ukip is here to stay … June 2014 we have a European election. That is the day on which Ukip can cause an earthquake in British politics. I want to lead the party into that."

Asked whether he would stand for parliament in the 2015 general election – he stood against the Commons Speaker, John Bercow, in Buckingham in 2010 - Farage said: "Yes I will stand for a seat in 2015. I have been rather busy for the last few weeks doing other things [to decide which seat to contest]. But I will think about it."

Farage pointed out that Ukip was picking up votes not just from the Tories, saying his party won 24% of the vote in the South Shields byelection, mostly from old Labour supporters.

Are Britain’s problems so deep that NOBODY can make a difference to them? My emphatic answer is YES

[snip] Ed Miliband [Labour] yesterday said Britain’s problems are so bad NO ONE can solve them... also refused to admit Labour would increase borrowing if they were in power — even though Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls had already said as much. [/snip]

Sounds like he had the shadow chancellor job in the bag.

The Guardian is happy to lionize UKIP so long as it undermines the Tories. IOW, be careful what you wish for.

This will all depend on how serious the voters are when it comes time for national elections, rather than local council elections. UKIP can’t carry out much of their platform from the local council (think city or county council in the US, which is what this weeks elections were). If, and it’s a big if, they can pick up any seats in Parliament (currently UKIP hold none) they might start to have some say in EU relations, immigration, etc. It will be interesting to see what a larger national election turnout does to their chances, and if many here really want out of the eu. Currently, the free trade shengen travel (open borders for holiday and business travel) and investment into and out of the UK are more popular to Brits than a return to isolation. The Tories need to figure out a compromise to tighten immigration and keep the benefits of membership. A referendum on exitinformation the eu would fail as of today, and UKIP doesn’t offer much more than that in their talking points.

The local councils provide the opportunity for the UKIP to develop their bench that soon could run for the more national positions.

Rubio, McCain, and Lindsey Grahamnesty are equally liberal as David Cameron and the worst of the European Socialists.

The Republican leadership is completely infected with the European Socialism bug. I only wish someone like Nigel was here to slap the GOP liberals around.

Thanks!

Local election results are good for Ukip, not so good for Labour
But double protest-vote is downright bad for the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats
Tony Travers
http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2013/may/03/local-elections-analysis-ukip-labour

[snip] Large Conservative groups still dominate the shires, a crumb of comfort for David Cameron, including some rock-solid performances in Surrey, West Sussex and North Yorkshire.

Buckinghamshire’s fight against HS2 did not result in a Ukip landslide and the Tories remain strongly in control. The government will take note of that.

Nevertheless, the Conservatives lost control of Nottinghamshire to Labour, while losing East Sussex, Gloucestershire, the Isle of Wight, Lancashire, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Oxfordshire and Warwickshire to “no overall control” (NOC). The Tories’ heaviest overall seat losses occurred in Lincolnshire (-24), Norfolk (-20), Cornwall (-18), Lancashire (-16), Suffolk (-16), Staffordshire (-15) Oxfordshire (-14), and Nottinghamshire (-14). Nevertheless, against the odds the party held on in Staffordshire and managed to gain four seats in Northumberland...

Labour lost 291 seats when these elections were last contested in 2009. They had gained just 260 by late on Friday afternoon, albeit with a number of boundary changes and slightly fewer seats contested. [/snip]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UK_Independence_Party_representation_and_election_results

[snip] European Parliament — UKIP had 13 MEPs elected at the 2009 European elections, their highest tally to date. Following defections (one Conservative MEP defecting to UKIP; two UKIP MEPs defecting to the Conservatives; and one leaving UKIP MEP the party and later founding the We Demand a Referendum party), UKIP now has 11 MEPs in the European Parliament. Roger Helmer was elected as a Conservative MEP but defected to UKIP in March 2012. Trevor Colman is the only UKIP MEP who is not a member of the EFD grouping. [/snip]

To address the real problem we have with OPEC-influenced (pwned) politicians and other policymakers, US hydrocarbon production needs to continue to grow.

But ideally and to save time, we’d just roll into Arabia, move the entire population into a single area, subdivided into nice engineered minifarms , surrounded by desert, with no modern transportation or communication technology, irrigated with fresh water obtained entirely from coastal desalination plants, and annex everything in the Middle East oil patch, piece by piece, until we owned it all (other than Kurdistan, I look forward to help carving that out of Turkey, Syria, Iran, Turkey, Iraq, and Turkey.

And if Pat Buchanan objected to our “empire”, shoot him through both eyes and nail his carcass over the nearest town gate.

What do you against Buchanan? IMO he’s one of the rare Repubbie that have not been out to lunch or just a lesser evil since Reagan. Do you always think of violence against those viewed as political opponents and do you also want to shoot those through both eyes that did not vote for loser Romney and his little twerp sidekick?

Buchanan isn’t a Republican, or a conservative, he’s a skinhead, as are all of his supporters.

I’m glad you agree that both Lindsey Graham and Marco Rubio have sold their political careers to the Democrat Socialists. Time to recognize these Benedict Arnolds for what they are: Liberals.

UK is not a Schengen country...so not sure where you got that info. You have to go thru UK customs when going from EU country to the UK

Reality is people are realizing that Open Borders and Free Trade do not work....and the Brits are figuring out that there is only so much Socialism that can fix the mess caused by the EU and its failed Free Trade and soverignity robbing programs.

Sounds like Grover Norquist, James Baker , the Bush family, and a lot of other Islamic Apologists would have more problems with your Mid East invasion than Pat Buchanan would.

Globalists tend to cover for the Islamic Terrorist States.

I'd say that "a return to isolation" is rather the overstatement.

So says the tool that believes Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the Al-Q allied Muslim Brotherhood are actually US allies. Something very perverse about your ‘Conservatism’.
