For the Left, I am the target of deepest hatred.
For my trenchant views, expressed in this newspaper, they call me ‘insane’, ‘reactionary’, ‘racist’, a ‘Nazi’, a ‘shroudwaver’, a ‘witch’ and a ‘warmonger’.
I have been accused of ‘unmatched depths of ignorance and bigotry’ and being the ‘queen of mean’.
It was even suggested (in a particularly extreme spasm of hyperbole) that I eat broken bottles and kill rats with my teeth.
This resort to crude insult against anyone who dares to challenge their shibboleths is typical of the Left. It doesn’t argue its case. It simply tries to shut down debate by bullying its targets and labelling them as extremists and enemies of humanity in order to frighten people away from listening to them.
But they reserve a special loathing for me. This is not just because I refuse to be cowed.
It’s because I was once one of them, one of the elect, a believer.
I come from the kind of family in which it was simply unthinkable to vote Conservative. For my parents, the Tory Party represented the boss class, while Labour supported the little man — people like us.
My father was haunted all his life by the poverty he endured growing up in the old East End of London in the Twenties and Thirties.
His family of six lived in two rooms; he never had enough to eat. He left school at the age of 13.
As a university-educated young woman with hippie-style hair and an attitude, I, too, generally toed the standard Leftist line in the late Seventies and early Eighties.

I enjoy converts from the left. I never had a chance to be a liberal. I saw the left attacking the Second Amendment when I was a young teenager.

The Left HAS to attack the family and church. It is the only way THEY and their minions in power can control the population. The Left has simply tried to replace the church with the state, and all of the shibboleths one might find in the former are as trenchant in the latter.
In 196e, I had a great teacher named George Christos who told us heroic tales of the Revolutionary War and I also knew that America defeated the bad Nazis. It was difficult to reconcile those views with the later so-called antiwar stuff I heard and the lack of respect for America those guys had.
Somehow, I doubt after 1963 there was much teaching of our heroic past in this country. If I was born at a later time, maybe I would've stayed a more seditious type. I would have heard nothing good about this country, I am sure.
I had never heard of Ms. Phillips, but I stumbled on her live on in depth this morning. I was quite impressed. My husband who is very liberal was not! I want to check out more of her writings.
Our cultural and political elites have simply turned truth and justice inside out and, with argument replaced by insult and abuse, taken leave of reality itself. They have destroyed rational discourse, polarised opinion and thereby undermined the possibility of finding common ground.

More specifically the upscale side of the left hates for the peasants to have families. They don’t want peasants rising in business to compete. Many big shot families are tight—really tight. If asked, their families are perfect. That’s one of the practices that keep them going. I’ve worked for some of them.
This line is a succinct summation of a profound problem with application of the scientific method in any field:
“Evidence would be denied if the consequences were inconvenient”.
Or, “Agenda Uber Alles” to borrow an idea from the Germany of the Third Reich. What does the preceding, from a most nasty government mean to Americans today?
Much, it means much. Note that a bureaucrat is the same across the world, and when bureau-scientists ape their paymasters intellectual constructs, they become the same as “scientists” in the late USSR.
Remember Lysenko?
Now, look at the Academented in the schools and universities in your town.

The left talks about it but the right is who actually does it.
The left sticks a bumper sticker bleating about "better education". The right starts better schools and funds scholarships to those schools.
The left then attacks them for wanting shut down the bad schools.
The left whines about people being out of work. The right starts businesses.
The left calls them greedy.
The left cries about the homeless. The right starts charities for the 90% that are temporarily homeless and tries to get the 10% who are chronically homeless into a supervised living arrangement.
The left says that they are heartless.
Remember Darwin. He quickly became a Darwinist himself even though the evidence did not support his conclusions in the Descent of Man. It was not natural selection that was wrong but the misapplications of it to matters far removed from biology.

I suggest that to ask of a person with a life span of less than 100 years to understand 1,000,000 years is unreasonable and overly optimistic.
Alas, the one million year unit is the basic unit on evolutions’ timescale yardstick, timestick, whatever.
A theory that can explain a process that takes a million years, or even in a hundred thousand is not necessarily a theory that can explain one that has happened in a hundred.

Not really. The state, for a progressive, is a means to an end. Intellectuals like socialism/communism/totalitarianism not because it is perfect and without flaws, but for their own self-interest.
The ego, need-to-belong, and intellectualism (both real and imagined) of the progressive is the driving force in life. They long to be insiders/powerful/controlling. The state is a means to that.
Every government bureaucrat is a failure in market terms. They earn economic rent via government employment. Economic rent is profit above the market rate. While at the same time gaining power over other people’s lives. That’s progressivism from top to bottom.
Even within the progressive movement there are lackeys and masters. It’s all about the will to power and confronting the very real fact that someone “dumber” and less “intellectual” than them is achieving more. Can’t have that - it goes against the preconceived “natural order”. Liberals see the world this way.
