What are reasons you’d give an ally advance warning? I tried to come up with a list and essentially it comes down to two things; to allow your ally to protect assets in place and as a courtesy. Courtesies are an exchange currency. If you’re courteous to your ally, he will be courteous back, or you aren’t allies. No advanced warning here is, in part, related to how Obama allowed the bottom of his shoe to be photographed for the caption on an Oval Office picture titled, “President Obama speaks to Netanyahu.” Obama has been more than discourteous; he met with Netanyahu’s political enemies while a guest of Israel. He insulted Netanyahu on numerous occasions. The other reason for advance warning is the ally may have spies in place where you’re going to bomb. You’d want to warn him to take them out. The chance of that was zero.
