Senate passes bill allowing states to tax online sales (Never a tax our government didn't like)

The Senate sided with traditional retailers and financially strapped state and local governments Monday by passing a bill that would widely subject online shopping — for many a largely tax-free frontier — to state sales taxes.

The Senate passed the bill by a vote of 69 to 27, getting support from Republicans and Democrats alike. But opposition from some conservatives who view it as a tax increase will make it a tougher sell in the House. President Barack Obama has conveyed his support for the measure.

Under current law, states can only require retailers to collect sales taxes if the store has a physical presence in the state.

Even though I live in a state with no sales tax, I understand that’s a tenuous position, subject to change with the next democrat legislature bold enough to do so

This is just criminal.

That means that all these businesses have to keep track of which state charges how much tax and to be sure to send them the tax money.

Sick.

The democrat party and the RINOs in the republican party are enemies of the people and traitors to the oath they took to defend the U.S. Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.

How is it that the Feds believe they can enforce the collection of state sales tax?

I thought such bills must originate in the House.

I can’t figure out which has the people living in this country more excited. Homosexuality or tax increases. Whichever it is, Barry has himself a 52% approval rating on the most recent FOX poll. Americans love Barry!

The only difference between the RNC in DC and the Dimwits is the color (red vs. blue) of the party’s logo. Just another Left coast scam on the public.

This is not a federal tax. It is the Federal gov’t forcing retailers to collect sales tax on behalf of the state used by the purchaser as his mailing address.

It's in Article I Section 7 of the U.S. Constitution, and that would make this tax unconstitutional.

Even though I live in Texas back in the day I contributed to the election campaign of John Thune. He may be tall but he’s got a skinny spine. That jerk better stop sending me letters in the mail regularly asking for more $$$.

In my opinion, there is no profanity adequate to describe these political slimes.

I'm long past the state where I thought the Senate would side with citizens in general and not some subset of same.

That clause relates to 'raising revenues'. This bill requires that states collect the sales tax on internet purchases.

Reminds me of the healthcare is it a tax or a fee flim flam. I hate this current gang of thieves in DC.

At this time, I would not even return for a visit.

So where are you, that it is so much better than the USofA? I have friends who are trying to determine a better homeland. Some are visiting Costa Rica. Where is it that the “good” outweighs the “bad” of the US? Thanks.

Downward social mobility seems to turn them on also.
