Skip to comments.Rush Limbaugh may leave Cumulus

The Rush Limbaugh Program is considering ending its affiliation agreement with Cumulus Media at the end of this year, a move that would bring about one of the biggest shakeups in talk radio history, a source close to the show tells POLITICO.
Should the move take place, 40 Cumulus-owned radio stations would lose the rights to the most popular talk radio program in the country. In addition, the show might be picked up by competing regional radio stations in Washington, New York, Chicago, Dallas and other major markets.
According to the source, Limbaugh is considering the move because Cumulus CEO Lew Dickey has blamed the company's advertising losses on Limbaugh's controversial remarks about Sandra Fluke, the Georgetown law student. In Feb. 2012, Limbaugh referred to Fluke as "a slut" because she had called on congress to mandate insurance coverage of birth control. The subsequent controversy over those remarks resulted in a significant advertising boycott.

This could shake up radio in several major markets. I wonder where he'd land in DC if not WMAL.
You know what I think? Ole Lew should read up on what happened to SLEEP TRAIN.
That’s what I think.
Rush is intensely loyal to his folks —overpays them, babies them, cuddles them.
You know what? That’s a TWO WAY street, and try THIS on:
Lew is in for a really good lesson on loyalty, I think.
“POUR ENCOURAGER LES AUTRES”, Lew.
Lew Dickey is a fool.
WBAP has been sliding since Cumulus took over, They are not sliding because of Limbaugh.
This reminds me of the story of the waiter who was rude to Howard Hughes.
According to legend, Howard Hughes bought the restaurant just so he could fire him.
The Sandra Fluke thing was hilarious. I was cleaning the kitchen when he was going off and it cracked me up so hard.
I hope Rush doesn’t have to leave CBM here. I’d rather he be on the real conservative station, but he’d probably be back to MSM station BAL if CBM had to drop.
Rush will survive despite Cumulus.
He’s played the circuit here in the bay area over the years.. never forget the day I turned on ksfo and Huckanbee was on,,
He should just start his own network. The Rush
Network .. Time stands still until you hit play... he always has his tea drink business to fall back on.
Carbonite was one of the first to leave Rush, and then almost begged to go back. I tossed them and was happy to do so.
Where Rush goes, that’s where I’ll go. If WABC drops him, it will be their their loss— as they’ll soon find out.
You mean the EIB Network.
It’s not that WABC or WMAL or the other Cumulus stations would drop Rush. It sounds more like a case of Rush possibly dropping them.
I think this is maneuvering before new contract negotiation.
Both parties are making calculated move.
I called Carbonite that Monday AM. Got a clueless girl answering the Customer service line...told her I hoped she did not lose her job because her Corp. boss was an a hole. I bet she did lose her job, poor thing.
I tossed Sherie’s Berries too after they dumped him..
All this is much ado about nothing.
The libs are spinning this hard to make it look like Right Wing Talk radio is on the decline and AM is dead.
But there is no alternate liberal media on the rise.
Oh they spout about twitter, but twitter is not entertaining, it is more like electronic gossip and we have usurped them there as well.
Free Republic, Hot Air, Captains Quarters....
We are not on the wane.
Rush is not going away.
I ordered some, then demanded a refund, after eating them (very over rated in the first place....Rush better without them)
It’s not exactly that, it’s Cumulus dumping Rush before Clear Channel comes in and exercises their option to take Rush off their stations anyway. That’s the “semi inside” scoop I heard....
They need him. He does not “need” them.
If they think they don’t “need him” they are in for a rude awakening.
Pro flowers is gone too, and They were a rip off IMHO.
I wonder what Pro flowers bottom line is this Mothers day?
Shari’s “Barry’s” doubled down on ad layouts and is advertising on TV
Pro Flowers and Shari’s Berries are same company....
Rush made “snapple” Then they sold out.
Now no one raves about snapple.
I really liked their Peach tea.
I never even see it anymore.
Sounds about right.
With 850 stations, Clear Channel is the largest radio station group owner in the United States, both by number of stations and by revenue. Cumulus Media is #2, operating 570 stations.
I've already programmed a button on my car radios to WOR 710, even thought I know this won't happen until next year.
Honestly I have not heard any Pro flowers ads this Mothers day.
So maybe that is what has Lew Dickeys panties in a bunch.
They are just trying everything they can including lying to hurt Rush.
“made from the best stuff on earth”
Yes, he is a salesman.
He made them Billionaires by giving them his stamp of approval
I think they sold out to cadbury schweppes or someone for over 1 billion dollars.
Snapple was known for a popular series of TV advertisements in the early 1990s featuring Wendy Kaufman (the “Snapple Lady”) answering letters from Snapple fans. In an effort to counteract the Coke and Pepsi challenge commercials, Snapple began running a new line of advertisements in May 1992, which featured its trademark made from the best stuff on earth line in ads that spoofed earlier beer and sports drinks promotions; the ads received low marks from advertising industry observers. In addition, the company used its $15-million-a-year advertising budget to pay for a long-lived series of live radio commercials featuring controversial disk jockeys Howard Stern and Rush Limbaugh. At the end of the summer of 1992, Snapple conducted a five-week search for a new advertising agency that could better convey its corporate identity in preparation for a wider national push. Later that year, Snapple also signed tennis player Jennifer Capriati to endorse its products. By August 1992, Snapple had expanded its distribution to every major city in the United States and it signed new contracts with beverage distributors. The company owned no manufacturing facilities, but instead made agreements with more than 30 bottlers across the country. In this way, Snapple was able to keep its overhead low and its payroll short. The company administration consisted of just 80 employees, 50 of whom worked out of a modest office building on Long Island.
The Quaker Oats Company bought Snapple for $1.7 billion in 1994. The company ran into problems and sold it to Triarc in 1997 for $300 million. Triarc sold it to Cadbury Schweppes for $1.45 billion in September 2000. It was spun off in May 2008 to its current owners.
Old Snapple bottles and logo were used from 2000-2008
Starting in May 2009, Snapple was made with sugar, not high fructose corn syrup. However, in certain areas, the older formula is still sold in stores, but this is becoming increasingly rare. However it is rumored that still some bottles of the old Snapple are sold on the black market.
Rush is the consummate Radio Professional.
Some people hate the way he segues to commercials, but I think it is brilliant.
Will anyone remember Sandra Fluke in 20 years?
Wasn’t she that slut?
When I listen to Rush I feel like I am in the room with him.
The imaginary bantor between Snerdly and Dawn.
I fill their spot in my imagination.
Hannitys show gets disrupted with at his regular friends who just piss me off, disrupting the flow.
Velma, and all the others.
Man, my teeth start clenching, it is like a turd in the punchbowl
No Offense to Velma or Big Time AJ or Tavares or any of the others.
It’s just lousy radio.
No. Rush called her a slut after she publicly bragged about her life as a slut and demanded Congress legislate financial support so she could continue to be a slut. Further, the "controversy" was orchestrated by the usual suspects who condone all deviant sexual behavior, demanding that it be both protected and publicly subsidized, but never named or ridiculed.
And yes, a bunch of advertisers with no moral integrity deserted Rush. Then a huge amount of customers stopped doing business with those venal cowards.
Endorsements by Rush are given serious consideration by his listeners. When those advertisers betray solid business arrangements for PC expediency, Rush's listeners will not hesitate to find alternative products.
Should Rush switch radio stations, both his listeners and advertisers will switch with him. And if the listeners cannot receive the new stations, they will subscribe to his podcasts.
One last cautionary tale for radio stations. Years ago I saw a radio station embrace its local liberals and drop The Rush Limbaugh Show. That basically took it out of the area. And the station personnel bragged about it. Well, within a week, they lost a significant amount of local advertising. And the businesses pulled no punches. They flat out told the radio station that they would not advertise with them until the show was restored. And if it went to another station, that's where their advertising was going. Rush returned to that station.
Hannitys show gets disrupted with at his regular friends who just piss me off, disrupting the flow.Plus when Hannity has a "debate" it doesn't matter if it's a caller or a guest, they always make him look like a fool and he's too stupid to know it.
Hannity comes on right after Rush here so sometimes I hear him because I don't want to walk over and change the channel (working in my shop). If I hear his "Democrats say republicans want dirty air, dirty water" one more time I'm going to gag.
Rush’s show seems to be over in a hour.
Hannity’s seems like it is 6 hours long and then he wants me to tune in to the TV show?
It is pure tedium.
Nobody cares if Fluke is a slut, but she sure was no saint.
The wider issue was Gov dictating church doctrine with taxpayer money.
It was wrong, wrong!
Any advertiser that did not get the gist of the problem can kiss my arse.
“Pro Flowers and Sharis Berries are same company” Funny, both Pro Flowers and Sherri’s berries have been advertising like crazy during the Rush show via the local station. While Rush does not do the personal promo they seem to be very eager to use his show to advertise the local spots.
This is wishful thinking from the politico commies. Cumulus will soon have a new president.
Seems the future of Cumulus is clouding up, due to stormy relationship with Rush....
One of my biggest Hannity gripes is his constant use of
lists......on every topic. Usually it is the same old, tired
lists. Other than that his inability to argue beyond the
first level of a debate shows him to be a shallow
At’a boy, Lew
The day before yesterday I received a postcard from Pro-Flowers asking me to “COME BACK WE MISS YOU.”
Used to use them a lot.
Look for either WOR AM or WCBS AM in NYC to take Rush in. Count on it.
