Is Benghazi Becoming a Watergate, or Iran-Contra, or Both?

Benghazi cannot be dismissed with “long ago” or “what difference does it make” exasperation, given it may have the cover-up and civil-liberties aspects of Watergate and the weapon-transfers and foreign-policy implications of Iran-Contra.

This is about the coldest assessment of what really happened that I have seen so far.

He only talks about it in political terms.

There were Americans murdered, too Mr. Hanson.

THIS is in a class all its own. This is treason. This is premeditated murder by officials at the Very highest levels of government. To compare it to anything we have seen before is to diminish its significance.

Anyone wanting on or off this ping list, please advise.

This was coldblooded murder of high ranking diplomats, spooks, and Navy SEALS. Way beyond Watergate or Iran Contra in my opinion.

How many Americans were killed at the Watergate?

How many Americans were killed as a result of the Iran-Contra deals?

How many Americans were killed in Benghazi?

No one was murdered at Watergate. Nor were they raped with a bayonet.

American citizens were not left to die at watergate while the POTUS went to bed early and hung out the do not disturb sign.

This is nothing at all like watergate.

4. What exactly were we doing in Benghazi, with both a consulate and a CIA compound, and what if any were the connections between the late ambassador, Libyan weapons, Syria, arming rebels, Turkey, etc.? And who exactly were the terrorists working for, or what exactly were they trying to achieve?

Maybe we should ask Putin if they were working for him. What happened in Benghazi would be a very clear message to Obama, Hillary, et al.

Gun running to Syria.. that's something that Putin would want to end by any means necessary.

In that case the deaths at Benghazi and the deaths of the USS Scorpion crew could be more alike that any silly comparison to Watergate.. I remember Watergate.

The media hated the president.. here the media loves the president. The media was in a frenzy to be rid of Nixon.. some evenings the TV network news was nothing but Watergate, literally.

And if it turns out that the Russians were behind the Benghazi attacks the whole matter will be put aside.

Correct. Absolutely nothing will come of this. There will be hearings and blah blah blah. Does anything honestly believe the House will truly want to seek the truth?

If necessary, a Wag the Dog event will happen. Maybe in 30 years we will know the truth.

in neither of those did Americans die due to deliberate incompetence / negligence / intent.

how the seals died is worse. they were set up by allowing them to think they had assets in the area... exposing their position... and being hit when the asset didn’t do its job

I’d call it treason for allowing American personnel to deliberately take actions without required support.

but for now, I’ll just call it murder

Only if the "news" media cover it, at all. I seriously doubt that they will cover Benghazi like they did Watergate, with daily televised hearings, constant front page coverage, and practically the only thing that was allowed to be discussed on the Sunday Screaming Faces Shows.

No, the "news" media must protect their selected boy-king and keep Benghazi-gate from the sheeple so as not to let them get too knowledgeable on what is really happening in America.

For the libs/media, Nixon, a Republican, must remain the only President driven from office in disgrace.

The normally reserved Brit Hume discussed “impeachment” grounds with Bill O’Reilly tonight which I expect was only done with full permission of Roger Ailes AND Rupert Murdock.

Gretta had Lindsey Graham on at 10:00 and he looked like the cat who ate the canary when he said “There is more to come” pointedly twice...meaning there is MORE than accusations that Hilarious and Barry withheld reinforcements, already an impeachable offence.

I can’t speak for others but I will say that the reality of the msm having this power is certainly true, to a degree. Where they are unable to dictate the dialogue is social media and it would be helpful if other conservatives took to some of these tools available.

As annoying as twitter can be, it does get the message out.
I’ve long since resolved that the brain dead obamanites will believe anything and everything. But there are plenty of people who really just don’t have the interest and/or the time to follow all the lunacy going on in this country.

Just giving them facts that don’t match what ding dong brian williams says tends to get them interested in asking questions. That’s been my experience. fwiw

This is a wonderful opportunity for a journalist to “make their career” with some true, investigative reporting, ala Woodward and Bernstein

If they have the guts and are not hectored down by their peers that is.

What will be the "Look! A squirrel!" distraction on Wednesday to make sure the hearings don't get their share of attention?

In 1973 the media was obsessed with Watergate. They even made a hero of an old segregationist like Sam Ervin because he was useful to the cause of bringing down Nixon. I recall a column (by Art Buchwald, I think) where he asked, "what did we talk about before Watergate?"

The main thing is to protect Obama and Hillary (as the best hope of maintaining 'Rat control after 2016), so this can't be allowed to balloon to Watergate-size proportions. It may be hard to demonize the four dead Americans but they can minimize the importance of the story.

In the end it will be the little people who will leak the truth. The truth will comeout and I bet it will go all the way to Obama and Hillary—the whole story is not known—the Why has yet to be shown. I think, my theory and others as well, is it was a stunt to show how manly Obama is—but it went wrong and spun out of control. The damage control idea of a Video was a back up fig leaf to cover up the failure—and it didn’t work. The truth will come out—it always does. Its going to be a bad year for Obama—look to see him try a “Wag the Dog” war to hide this and push it off the front pages.

Not if a major MSM outlet doesn’t make it a big deal.

That is the very sad truth of it. Obama has the entire media (at least the one that dumb people watch) to surround him with a ring of protection. They are his defensive army, and they are not going to let anything significant happen to our first blackish president. The MSM is this administration's propaganda division, and it's treasonous.

You guys don’t seriously believe anyone is getting impeached for this, do you? People in government office stopped being held accountable for dead americans a very long time ago. Waco, Ruby Ridge, Oklahoma City, 9/11...no one gets held accountable for being incompetent, evil or just plain asleep at the wheel. It’s the same reason why sharks won’t eat lawyers. It’s just a professional courtesy that one side of the club extends to the other.

You mean, who told Hillary to say that it was over a bogus film.

Hillary knew perfectly well that it wasn’t, and I think that’s why the high-level person that the WH sent out to talk it up was the UN Ambassador Susan Rice, who was unconnected with the events in any way and probably really didn’t have much first-hand knowledge of the actual attack. Thus, if people challenged her, she could always say she was just relying on what “sources” told her and get away without directly lying to the media or, ultimately, perjuring herself.

Even though minions in the State Dept had almost immediately sent out the video story to foreign missions, indicating that the story had been prepared even in advance of Benghazi as a cover story for any Islamic attacks on 9/11, Hillary had virtually no firm statements at first, because she knew too much about it. But once that narrative, including massaging of the CIA reports to reflect it, came out from the Muslim-loving WH and survived its trial run without being challenged, it became the official story and she felt perfectly free to proclaim it.

I think we’re going to find that this whole scheme was an effort on the part of the WH to build up what someone else called “plausible deniability.” The unusual thing, as Hanson points out, is that the WH got all the rest of the departments and agencies to fall in with the lie almost immediately. The WH was seeking not only deniability of Obama’s incompetence and lack of interest, but deniability of their real intention, whatever it was. (Arming AQ?)
