The only way this turkey will get the nomination for President in 2016 is if the GOP can effectively split the conservative vote like they did with Romney, Santorum and Gingrich.

Sounds like some guys I saw at the Fillmore in '68, man.

Clinton/Christie 2016 you heard it here first.

It will be hailed as the bringing together of the parties for the good of America. Hillary and Christie embracing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. Hillary brings the dims and fat boy brings the RINO’s. Basically a 60%+ percentage win because stupid people will buy it as a stride to put politics aside.

And I have known people who have lost all they needed on Weight Watchers, and then tried to return to a limited normal diet and wound up gaining it all back. Will power, sedentary jobs, and body metabolism are all factors.

Good! The more RINO’s in the primary pool the better.

...I don’t see him having the mental strength and control of his own will to be a satisfactory president of the US.

I agree with your reasoning, but there has been one exception: Taft. He did OK, from what I have read about him.

Interesting viewpoints one post after the next.

One size doesn't fit all, and I hope that Christie went on the advice of his physicians.

I'm a "Fuhrmaniac", i.e. the regimen developed by Dr. Joel Fuhrman in his book "Eat to Live". He stresses a diet of "greens and beans", and plenty of exercise.

I'm 2/3 of the way to my goal of dropping 45 lbs, which will get me down to 180, the same weight I carried when I graduated from Jump School 37 years ago. That's a far different situation from Christie's.

"That needs will power. If Christie had it he wouldn't have weighed 350 (that's a guess but he looked at least that). Not mocking him. It's a difficult problem that those who don't have it find hard to understand."

Well, he'd better learn new eating habits, or the surgery will have been for nothing. One of my husband's co-workers had the same operation. She went from 300 lbs. to around 140. But she went back to eating the same junk, and she's gained much of the weight back.

If Christie cuts back on the carbs, he won't have to starve himself...that never works, anyway.

Congrats on your weight loss! Keep up the good work.

Thanks! The first 30 lbs was pretty easy. I've been at 195 (+/-) the past two months. My routine's been interrupted the past six weeks while coaching my son's baseball team. Still, I feel pretty good that my weight's stayed the same. With the weather warming up a bit, I'm able to extend my walks on the weekend.

I'm a big believer in Fuhrman's plan, but it's not for everybody. Could someone like Christie comply with the dietary requirements, timewise? It takes me about an hour to eat my normal dinner, consisting of a large salad (2 quart bowl) and 12-16 oz of steamed vegetables/soup.

Plus, I go back to dissimilar situations: it has to be easier to go from 225 to 180, than 350+ to 200 or less.

I didn't say it can't be done; I just don't understand why people mind if other people opt to get the lapband. I've lost weight and kept it off via WW, but I don't criticize dieters who fail at WW or who simply decide getting a lapband would be easier than dieting for the rest of their lives.

Oh, sorry. I think what happens to many dieters is that they come to believe regaining lost weight is inevitable, so they opt for the lapband. A few other posters are judgmental about that, which baffles me.
