Scientists Invent Oxygen Particle That If Injected, Allows You To Live Without Breathing
TechWrench ^ | August 23, 2012

New Medical Discovery

A team of scientists at the Boston Children’s Hospital have invented what is being considered one the greatest medical breakthroughs in recent years. They have designed a microparticle that can be injected into a person’s bloodstream that can quickly oxygenate their blood. This will even work if the ability to breathe has been restricted, or even cut off entirely.

This finding has the potential to save millions of lives every year. The microparticles can keep an object alive for up to 30 min after respiratory failure. This is accomplished through an injection into the patients’ veins. Once injected, the microparticles can oxygenate the blood to near normal levels. This has countless potential uses as it allows life to continue when oxygen is needed but unavailable. For medical personnel, this is just enough time to avoid risking a heart attack or permanent brain injury when oxygen is restricted or cut off to patients.

Dr. John Kheir, who first began the study, works in the Boston Children’s Hospital Department of Cardiology. He found inspiration for the drug in 2006, when he was treating a girl in the ICU who had a severe case of pneumonia......

So now Bloomberg can finally ban breathing. Breathing creates CO2 which causes Gorebull warming and since we no longer need to breathe, it is banned.

There is one problem with this.

CO2 buildup can kill you.

If your pH gets too high or too low, it is lethal.

CO2 must also be removed.

This is why some patients who require oxygen must have a setting to force them to breathe -- to eliminate CO2

In nursing, one learns about this -- a nurse must know about this.

When this was first mentioned last year, it had not yet been through its Stage III human testing. And that’s a big sticking point.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_substitutes

There has long been blood substitutes called “oxygen therapeutics”, that are typically hemoglobin-based oxygen carriers (HBOC) and perfluorocarbon-based oxygen carriers (PFBOC). And while they work, there is some concern that they could damage internal organs if used too long.

However, it seems to me that their best short term application may not be “whole body” use, but in the equivalent of a single limb blood bypass.

Say someone has a crushed hand, and blood cannot circulate. Doctors have been so desperate that they use sanitized leeches to suck the stagnant blood from the hand so more oxygenated blood can flow in.

However, if you rig a bypass, for both the artery and the vein in the upper arm, and substitute the oxygen therapeutic for their blood, just a little bit of it oozing into the hand may do wonders for tissue oxygenation.

Importantly, some of these fluids contain much more oxygen than does hemoglobin, so a little bit may go a long way.

Probably not. For one diving is strenuous and you use more oxygen.

Metered just right much like an insulin pump a person could breath on mars without a suit, as far as I know its not a vacuum just not enough oxygen.

High altitude climbers can benefit as well.
Restaurants could have a crash kit with this in case of severe food choking.

Lifeguards, the list goes on and on, yes this is HUGE.

The atmospheric pressure is still too low on mars. Your lungs would hemorrhage etc.

On the other hand it could lead to carrying less oxygen when working on the surface.

“For your consideration.”

I had read this. It could save a lot of people on an operating table who get into breathing trouble. Thirty minutes to get the person back. The possibilities are many to save lives. Put it on ambulances and prolong life to get patient to the hospital.

However, what I want to know is, how long does it take a vegetable seed to germinate and start growing? I've got six bags of potting soil mix full of seeds and none has come up. Sure, this is off topic for this thread, but it's real life and is what matters to me right now. Also, there is a baby squirrel who is tromping around in those bags.

Nothing is ever free so I would guess the harder you work your muscles the shorter time the injection will last. If you just lay still you get 30 minutes, I wouldn't complain about that if I was having a heart attack.

GtG
