I've had mixed feelings towards this entire ordeal.
1) I do not care about Ramsey's past. I haven't read the specifics and don't think I will.
2) I don't consider Ramsey a "hero" (apparently, neither does Ramsey). He did what a man SHOULD do. Now real men ARE getting harder and harder to come by, granted. And whether he was the first, or second person on the scene, he did what he needed to do. He helped aid a person in distress. He should be commended for his effort and somebody should cater him a barbecue. However, I don't think they should erect a statue.
3) Berry should be considered the real hero in this specific event (notwithstanding the other girls' enduring such torture over the years are heroes in their own right). She found a way to escape her bondage, overcome whatever twisted psychological bonds existed, risk life and limb, and kick, pound and scream until she couldn't be ignored. Saving her life and those of the others held captive.

Now another neighbor says that he did the rescue and that Ramsey is lying.

I think Ramsey is someone who is typically uninhibited... you see it in his speech, his mannerisms and in his actions coming to Amanda Berry’s aid... he is not analytical, or a deep in thought kind of person... often it is people who are of the uninhinited type who find themselves the unintended hero... kind of like Forrest Gump... he just did what needed to be done without having to weigh anything first... a more analytical or thinking person might have hesitated... might have condidered, “hey, that’s Ariel’s house... can’t be anything wrong there.”

He said it was his day off. He was willing to come to her aid, AND he actually has a job! Despite living in a part of Cleveland where civilization has apparently ended.
He’s already my hero.

We could use more like him.

The media turns everything into a morality play about race. I swear, the idea that this guy was black never entered into my mind. I thought he did the right thing at the right time, and that was the end of it. Evidently my sensibilities aren’t as refined as I supposed.
