Cruz on Obama TX visit: 'Perhaps he will learn how to create' jobs 'from the folks who know how'

Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz welcomed President Obama to the Texas Thursday, where Obama is scheduled to begin his "Middle Class Jobs and Opportunity Tour," by highlighting Texas' job record in comparison with the administration's.

"America is stuck with high unemployment and low GDP growth, so it's encouraging to see the President coming to Austin to talk about jobs - perhaps he will learn how to create some from the folks who know how," Cruz said in a statement.

"Texas is leading the nation in economic growth and job creation because of principled, conservative leaders who understand the keys to economic success are lower, flatter taxes, limited government and restrained spending,' he added. "Texas has shown the country how it's done, and we hope the President will take some of these lessons back to Washington to bring true economic recovery to our nation."

“Texas is leading the nation in economic growth and job creation because of principled, conservative leaders who understand the keys to economic success are lower, flatter taxes, limited government and restrained spending,” [Cruz] added. “Texas has shown the country how it’s done, and we hope the President will take some of these lessons back to Washington to bring true economic recovery to our nation.”

This is Obama’s second visit to Texas in two weeks, Bloomberg reported. The Dallas Morning News speculated Thursday that part of the visit is to make Cruz the face of Republican obstruction.

Oh Barry, Barry, Barry, who advised you on this? You think taking on Cruz in his home state is a good idea for your neverending campaign? This has FAIL written all over it!

“I believe we are in the early stages of the fulfillment of 2nd Thessalonians 2:11. It’s beyond logic.”

Yes, and it bears repeating, in the context of the preceeding and the following verses.

“And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”
(2 Thessalonians 2:10-12 KJV)

Verse 12 is powerful...”That they all might be damned who believed not the truth...”

Discernment is key for us, that we might recognize what is truth and what is not. This forum is important in that we get truth that is missing from the media. The media is part of “That they all might be damned who believed not the truth” (or speak not the truth).

The job growth in Texas is probably mostly due to the high oil prices.

Texas leads US in oil, gas production job growth

The claim that it's all due to low regs and taxes is misleading and a distraction from our bad trade policies.

I wish Cruz would be on the tarmac with Perry when Dear Leader gets here. I hate the fact that Communist Obama is in my town today,,of course he has to try to brainwash more children.

Perhaps he will learn how to create' jobs 'from the folks who know how

If leftist extremists were capable of learning, they'd abandon leftist extremism PDQ.

Stuff it, you are full of yourself. Gun companies and tech companies aren’t moving their headquarters and jobs to texas because of your fantasies about oil prices.

Barack Obama is the Reverend Jim Jones of American politics. No one believes a single word he says anymore except his fanatical, suicidal followers.

Each year the Tax Foundation publishes it’s “State Business Tax Climate Index” listing the best and worst states for business. Even though the 2013 edition was published this past October, I thought it would be interesting to list the top 10 (best) and the bottom 10 (worst) states and contrast it to the each states income tax structure and current unemployment rate. Table A lists the 10 best states and Table B contains the worst.

TABLE A-Top Ten (Most Business Friendly)

TABLE B-Bottom Ten (Least Business Friendly)

As you can see, only two of the top 10 states (Table A) tax the income of its residents. Although New Hampshire does tax dividends and interest above a certain threshold, it does not tax wages. States without an income tax hold a certain appeal to workers. Therefore, it may be argued that businesses would also find a sufficient labor pool in these states.

The tables are at Forbes:

To Danny in TN: il and gas once fueled much of the Texas budget. Yet in 2011, it only account for only 6.6% of the state’s tax revenue!

Thirty years ago, the production taxes paid by oil and gas operators amounted to about 24 percent of state tax collections.

A price crash in the early 1980s sent Texas into a deep recession and a downward fiscal spiral that forced state lawmakers in 1987 to enact sizable budget cuts and tax increases.

That same year, they also proposed creating an Economic Stabilization Fund — and voters later authorized it — to be filled mostly by excess oil and gas production taxes.

The original intent of that rainy day fund was to smooth out the effects of big fluctuations in the economy by socking away money from when times were good to spend when times were tough.

The reliance on oil and gas taxes for state operations has since diminished in large part because the economy is less tied to the industry.

Setting aside tax dollars in the rainy day fund also helped to wean the state off that money for ongoing expenses. Last year, those taxes accounted for just 6.6 percent of the $39 billion in tax collections.

I could only find a reference to one gun company moving to Texas. Though clearly Gov Perry has issued the invitation. And given that Texas may well be the most pro-gun state in the union, it would indeed make sense.

Still the gun industry dwarfs in comparison to the size of the oil industry.

And tech companies are probably coming from California which has run them off with excessive taxes and regs. I’m not saying there is not an argument for low taxes and regs relative other states.

I am saying that’s not the main cause of the nation’s unemployment problem. The nation’s unemployment problem is related to international trade and our failure to protect our market.
